There’s no obvious replacement, maybe Stokes but that’s about it.

England have a chance.. the lowest test innings ever recorded was 26 by NZ against England in 1955.

Dreadful from England. I don't expect Root to resign (though we'll see). I don't expect Collingwood to remain head coach. New management will come in and they'll have plenty of sorting out to do, starting with who's captain.

Root: a great batsman but clearly not a great captain. Who to replace him with though?
Crawley - has some talent but 'some talent' is not enough to make a Test batter.
Lees - can hang around a bit but that's not enough either.
Stokes - if he could stay properly fit that would be great....
Foakes - didn't look the master wicketkeeper he's reputed to be but I wouldn't complain if he got more time.
Mahmood - the best thing to come out of the tour so maybe there was some benefit from leaving out Broad and Anderson.
