Anyone watching? What a final! After Australia proved we’re the worlds best sporting nation with titles in the women’s singles and mens doubles its time for Spain to do their thing and vaccinated legend Nadal has fought back from 2 sets down to take it into the 5th.
What a match!

Shame for Djok that he'll eventually become the GOAT but will be one of the least liked players out there.

Fair play to Djokovic. Some things are more important than being voluntarily poisoned

Were you involuntarily poisoned? It would explain a lot.

I hope Djokovic spent the last couple of weeks purifying polluted water with positive emotions.

Why stop there, what about Serena? Steffi Graph? Lendall?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Serena - overpowered players for many years, as she hit mid-30s she struggled to maintain consistency and fitness. Something you'd expect tbh, irrespective of how good the player is/was.
Graf - wonderful tactical and aggressive player who had a golden period in her early 20's. Only won 1 GS after the age of 27 and struggled with injuries and consistency as she reached her late 20's. Was losing to players she was just better than.
Lendl - never really liked him as a player tbh but pretty much the same story, won all he was winning by mid 20's and as he got older he got less consistent.
All of that seems pretty standard for outstanding players. They reach a peak and struggle to compete at the same level as the demands of pro-tennis start taking their toll on their bodies.
Have you read Agassi's autobiography? It's worth a read but it really lays bare the physical demands of top level tennis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're a long-standing tennis fan? I remember that for years the ATP/WTA's unwillingness to deal with doping was one of sport's worst kept secrets.
The basic assumption ought to be, if doping is rife in the sport, then everyone will know it and therefore be doing it because no amount of talent is going to keep you ahead of the rest if they're all on stuff that gives them a huge physical advantage. Also, do you think Fed would be such good mates with Nadal if he thought he was diddling him out of slam after slam?
I don't have that much time for spectator sport nowadays, but way back when I was really into GT cycling. Was never an Armstrong fan, was in fact 'ABA', but if you look back at his 7 TdF wins, not one single rider of those who podiumed next to him got through their careers without being caught for or being closely associated with a doping scandal.
Casting aspersions on some and thinking the more graceful or talented players can live with these beasts or are going to be content with seeing them overtaking down the fast lane is just kidding yourself.
Oh, and don't get me started on football. Might just be the biggest con of the lot.

You just have to look at CR7 who is the ultimate athlete who has looked after himself but even he is finding it hard to compete with the younger players. He cant make the same runs like he used to. Cant press like the younger players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Likewise Nadal is struggling to win as many slams as he used to, as is Federer. Age has caught up with them. Djok not as much but that will come.
Med should have won today but I guess he is part of a weaker next generation. If there was a new Nadal, Fed, or Djok on the scene these GOATs wouldn't be getting the same look ins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.
Medvedev was 0-40 up on Nadals serve in the 3rd set and still somehow lost that set and the match. Statistically Medvedev beat Nadal in every department other than the score, which basically means he lost most of the big points. That comes down to mentality more than anything else.

Ok, I’ve downloaded the first chapter of Agassi’s book. Read the first 3 pages.
Flipping eck
There I was lying on my bed reading it, and suddenly reading that, made me squirm, and now I think I got back problems, even though I don’t.
Wow… really have no idea of the pain, sacrifice.
