It needed to be said and finally

Antonio Conte has said it. Spurs have purchased some absolute rubbish over the past few years. He is not holding back and aiming his fire at previous managers, and I think most of it at Pochettino who purchased Lo Celso and Ndombele, alongside the likes of Njie, Nkoudou, Janssen, etc etc. The amount of money Spurs have wasted over the past three or four seasons is criminal. This is what he had to say.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte says the club must pay "more attention" in the transfer market because of "mistakes in the past".

Conte oversaw his first transfer window with the club in January, when record-signing Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil all left on loan.

Ndombele cost Spurs £54m in 2019, while Lo Celso was £27.2m in 2020 and Gil joined from Sevilla for £22.5m in July.

"Usually you buy players to reinforce your team," said Conte.

"But if you send on loan after two or three years it is strange," the 52-year-old added.

"It means that maybe in the past you have to see what you did and maybe to understand that there were some mistakes in the past.

"We have to pay more attention in the future when we go into the market. It becomes a fundamental importance if we want to enforce the team, otherwise you drop the quality of your team."

I like the way he is not holding back about the previous failings at Spurs. He will cleanse the place hopefully, and rebuild his own squad over time. I trust him to bring in the right players over the next two or three windows, and move on players that are obviously not going to take Spurs up to the next level.

I copied them in my first post. They were in the Guardian article in Conte’s statements.

Yeah I'm sure Conte didn't aim any of that criticism at the scouts or chairman, you know the one that has a big hand in all of the transfers. Definitely all about the managers. Should we blame Conte if some of these current ones don't work?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes some blame can be pointed towards the chairman, but the managers have to take their criticism, they cannot get away scott free. You cannot tell me they had zero say in who to buy, that would be a nonsense.

Of course Conte will take some flak if some of his don`t work out, but I reckon he is a bit more experienced to just go out and buy players that are going to be sold in a year or so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you didn't mention the chairman in your OP. You have a habit of excusing Levy all the time.

Managers will have some say but it certainly isn't as simplistic as the manager wanting the players and us getting them, especially at Spurs. It might be for certain instances, like Redknapp getting his old players back. Often the financial constraints will lead to us making do with other players that maybe were not first choice. It's the job of the scouts and DOF to look for players that fit the mould of what a manager will want too.

Conte was not taking aim at previous managers but the club as a whole.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think he was definitely taking a pop at previous managers, by mentioning three players in particular. I doubt he would be calling out a club as a whole that have just employed him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wrong. You are the one taking a pop at previous managers, like Poch. Conte doesn't name names, and wouldn't even know who is truly responsible since he doesn't have any inside knowledge about it as most of us don't. He is talking about the club making the mistakes.

Even if you did believe Poch wanted those players, he was barely given any chance with them before he was sacked. Maybe he should have been given more time with them?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nah Conte definitely calling out Poch, by saying you shouldn't be loaning out players you purchased just a couple of years earlier. Clearly referring to Poch buys, Ndombele and Lo Celso. He couldn't have made it clearer.

Anyway whatever, we have moved on now, hopefully to an era with some trophies.

While I can’t really be bothered to get into this I will just say Jack Clarke was a club signing not a Poch signing like Ndombele & GLC was.

Why are we writing off Gil already, 19’with bags of potential moving to a new country, new league, different language and everyone is talking like he has been a nightmare. Let’s give him some time.

Neither GLC or Tanguy lack ability, their problems are purely mental, they lack drive, resilience and a winning mentality.

The real crime was abandoning the transfer policy that brought us the likes of Bale, Lennon, Jenas, Keane, Defoe and Dawson to name but a few - hungry young players who gave it all they had, supplemented with quality in the form of RVDV, Berbatov, Modric

Whatever you guys argue about, we are in a better state now, and thank God for this!

Was getting to a point when I was about to lose heart and find a new way to kill time and give my support to, until Conte arrived

I see a planned coaching, clear system we play, and finally, only players who show the desire and hard work to stay.

Conte has revived my Tottenham love air!
