Marcus Edwards mistake

Just been reading up on Marcus Edwards and how well he is doing in Portugal

I knew he was doing quite well but didn’t realise he got a move to Sporting recently

Still only 20

Poch famously compared him to Messi and maybe in hindsight that pressured him a bit but he really did look the real deal ….not sure who we were playing in a cup game but he came on and in one drop of the shoulder skinned someone ….he just looked like he had it

Pleased he is finally realising his potential and his own admission was moving to another country helped him grow up and concentrate solely on his football

Who sold him ? Has to be hitchin ? Why didn’t they loan him abroad ? Realise it’s easy to look back and say that now though

Just another failure of our recruitment team if you ask me ….anyone could clearly see the potential in him , he just needed to grow up

May see him against United in the champs league….

We got rid of Marcus Edwards because of a perceived bad attitude, and then spunked £50m on Ndombele

We should have kept him at all costs..Never seen a young talent like that at Spurs. A team like City would have done their utmost to keep him am sure. Truly gutted when he left.

Edwards should have been sent on loans to develop.. Height is no barrier..Its the strength and physicality that counts hence someone like Gil was bound to struggle as clearly not ready.

Edwards was sent on loan and City let someone like Sancho go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So was Kane and many others who went on countless loans..
And City tried their damn hardest to keep Sancho as alluded by Pep. Think Edwards lack of action at Norwich and perceived attitude was the last straw and we got rid. Still I would have kept him.

Why?

I am fairly sure I read somewhere that the sell on was sold on to Sporting, meaning we received nothing from his move to Sporting and still have a 40% sell on when he leaves Sporting. I could be wrong though, so don`t quote me on it.

If that is the case, in theory, should he keep improving and we wanted to sign him, we could pick him up at 40% less than his value.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or use him as leverage to sign Pedro Gonçalves who is a decent winger for Sporting. 4 goals, 2 assists in 4 CL apps, 6 goals and 5 assists in 17 apps in the league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
His stats last year were crazy too. Wasn't he at wolves?

Nice one mate ….good video

If we were linked with this player everyone would be shouting to sign him

I understand why some posters have said was the right call to get rid of at the time but The only word I can use to describe him is he glides and not many players looks so fluid in their movements as he does

I think he will be a top class player in a top league

We did loan him abroad.

The club sold him

He didn’t want to sign another contract

I have seen him play since he left and he is clearly a huge talent and do I think he would improve our squad now.? Absolutely!!

It's a well known fact that our scouting and recruitment is shocking at all levels, have to be the worst in Premier league, we show the world what great infrastructure we have but beneath it all we are shockingly run
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably only Everton have done worse. Arsenal have made a lot of bad calls too though. Man Utd actually seem to sign a lot of great players on paper but it doesn't come together on the pitch.
