I don’t know if anyone has seen the two videos floating around on social media of the Sydney shark attack yet but it’s got me thinking about why do people like to film everything nowadays and upload it for the world to see.
As I have seen the videos it’s going to sound a bit hypocritical of me but I cannot understand why someone would want to film a man’s admittedly quick but utterly traumatic and terrifying death and upload it for the whole world to see? And then you have the graphic comments on the videos describing all the gory details on what the shark did to the man - I’m not sure how they know all of it as the videos themselves aren’t overly gruesome and you don’t really see much of the attack apart from some thrashing around.
Is it just something in our nature that has to see the dark side of life? People slowing down to look at car crashes, taking photos of crime scenes etc….

I saw the video of the actor Vic Morrow die on the set of The Twilight Zone movie. A horrible death but thankfully you couldn't see much because the footage is quite grainy.
John Landis should have got prison time for that one.

Yeah, saw that too. I once went to a special screening of American Werewolf in London (in Leicester Square, yards away from the end of the movie funnily enough) and Landis was there doing a Q&A. I was so tempted to ask if he still heavily regrets what happened but didn’t wanna bring down the mood of the place.

The shark video and this bear audio are both very tame.

tbh honest it's quite a tame video
worst ones i've seen are the mexican cartel ones
they are truly horrific and show the depths of human behaviour
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cartel sharks are the worst. There’s nothing they won’t bite.

Horrible these videos. Got a mate who always circulates them.
There was one with a bloke getting cut open with a knife while being held down, and one where a naked guy had his balls and todger bitten off my a dog.
I realise I sound a bit hypocritical moaning about them and then describing them..,

Possibly would, but it didn't exactly affect his career too much. Still carried on with relative success.

I disagree. People find the audio disturbing because they know exactly what is going on. However, if someone played you that audio and said it was from a horror film, your mind would interpret it differently as you would then assume it's all special effects and nobody was actually hurt. It's only some screaming and a few bear growls. Without any accompanying images I find it pretty boring if I'm honest.

The worst video I ever saw was on Ogrish I think. It was the remains of someone who had been run over by a train and his face was flattened.
I also watched this documentary about this guy who was obsessed with bears (called the Grizzly man, deffo worth a watch). He and his Gf lived in the woods in the US and for some unearthly reason he and the bears lived in peaceful coexistence for years until one day a mean bear that I think he had always marked as trouble attacked him and his Gf while the camera was still on and killed them both. Apparently the audio that exists of the attack is so bad it’s never been released and exists in a safe in the local police station. The police arrived on the scene and found the girlfriends scalp and the bear eating the rest of her.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've heard the audio. Not something I would choose to listen to if I had known how bad it was going to be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it really that bad? A few screams and the odd growl. With accompanying images I think it would be a bit of a test, but that audio didn't bother me one bit
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure if we listened to the same one and I don't remember it word for word but I wished I hadn't heard it. A guy screaming for his life screaming that he's dying certainly bothered me. I mean I can watch that in a film no bother but when it's actually real and you out yourself in his place, that's a different thing altogether.

Again, I suppose it all boils down to the thresholds of a certain individual. For instance, my wife wouldn't even watch anything in a film, and despite claiming to be a massive Walking Dead fan she still hasn't seen the scene where Glen dies. If she knows there's gonna be staged gore, she'll instantly look away.
None of that bothers me even slightly, real or staged. I can feel appalled by it, but I still want to see if you get me. However, put a written detail of child abuse into words on a page, and that will absolutely break me straight away.

Yeah basically this. You can hear couple people screaming in any horror movie ever.
