Many claim he's not built for prem but I think he's not build for our tactics.
We rely on physical recovery of the ball off the opposition instead of using the ball and reducing the physicality required. Xavi and Iniesta were extremely light weight but they used the ball quickly negating the need for physical attrition.
5 talented kids will destroy 5 farmers in a 5 a side. We just don't know how to keep possession and make ourselves available available a pass. It's not in our famous 'DNA'.
We really need to clean out players that refuse to want the ball other wise no matter what talented players we sign they will never get the ball because possession would have been lost within 2 passes from the defence.
In order to play the tactics we seem to have in mind maybe we should forget attractive flowing football and sign brute athletes that know how to be physical and protect the ball. Hence why Winks will never work with our tactics. He doesn't want to have to fight for the ball because he knows he will lose it.
Ironically Gil definitely has more fight than Winks but some think Winks is more ready for prem.
If Gil was at Man City...

You need both.

In an ideal world yes but we are Spurs...I'll take either and a few of our squad are neither.

I think our scouts needs to focus on one attribute that is excellent instead of trying to sign all rounders.
Strength
Skill/technique
Speed
Preferably every signing we go for should be 9/10 in one of those categories at least.

It doesn’t matter if you are Spurs. A premier league footballer must have an acceptable level or physical attributes no matter how good his technique is. It’s why he’s gone back to Spain because he can’t hack it in England yet.

A blind man could see he wasn’t ready. still don’t understand this Lamela deal till today!! Getting rid of a first teamer and bringing someone in that wasn’t ready to fill his space. And to think we are struggling with the squad quality wise.
Gil himself agreed he wasn’t ready and needed to bulk up.
Might turn out to be star down the line but not EPL ready yet. Another poor decision by our club.

I think we did well to get him when we could. If he played him as a 10 and had a team that could make more than 3 consecutive passes we would see his qualities.
He dealt with Traore quite well and made some good tackles in the Wolves match. I have faith in the fact he doesn't pull out of 50/50 challenges unless so many of our supposed experienced players.

----------------------------------------------------------------------Have to agree with you there. Minimum of technique and physicality for me. Along with endurance , the modern game demands it. We are lacking in several of these attributes it hurts to watch at times.

Always thought Gil had great skills, very tricky, and should have been given more playing time instead of the cameo appearances at the end of games. Has ability to open up defences on left side to make chances for Bergwijn or Moura or Son or Kane.
Dunno how he showed in practice but our managers never gave him a chance.
