Arsenal's appeal

I'm a little conflicted with this one and I will precede anything that follows by saying that I, unlike a fair few other fans, do not believe that sports can be separated from politics or social change. Some of the greatest changes in society have gained traction or have actually happened because of sports or athletes.

With that being said, I am conflicted about Arsenal (as the club I know / believe to be doing this, not that they are the only club) fundamentally picking and choosing the issues to support.
Yemen? No
Racism / BLM? Yup
Palestine? No
Uighar Muslims? HELL no!
Ukraine? All the way in

I appreciate that the club is standing up and being counted but I struggle to resolve that with the catastrophes that, arguably, are worse that they have remained silent on or have silenced their own players from supporting. It's undoubtedly about money at the end of the day but it just leaves a bit of a sour taste that there's this perception of picking and choosing.

Seeing the passion being applied to supporting Ukrainians, which I am 100% behind, is a little frustrating because of what they have chosen not to highlight in the same way (or not even to the same degree... just not at all).

We had just won the league cup and SSN spent the first 15 minutes talking about Ukraine and Chelsea.

Are football clubs supposed to make a clear stance on every issue out there?

It is fckd up. UEFA fine Celtic for fans waving Palestine flags at a match against Happoel. They fined St Johnstone for a fan waving the same flag in a match against a Slovak side!

Palestine is a legitimate FIFA country and their players play all over the World - are fans not to wave the flag of players in support? Celtic have 4x Japanese players and wave their flag so is there a list of 'bad' flags and if Palestine is on it what do UEFA do at Palestinian club home games?

UEFA have fined Barca for fans waving Catalan flags but not German clubs waving their state / district flags.

FIFA have fined Ukraine for waving flags offensive to Poles.

Will they fine fans for waving Ukraine flags in support seeing as they are in an active conflict same as Palestine?

Flag fines have been more than racism fines.

It is ALL fckd up.

Maybe not but censuring fans / players over some while virtue signalling over others raises eyebrows.

It’s not difficult to work out, as much as people won’t like it.

Saudi Arabia are western allies. Yemen are not.

Israel are western allies. Palestine are not.

Ukraine are west allies. Russia are not.

China are a cash cow.

The question wasn't why this is the case. More just sharing my own thoughts about the double standard. We all know WHY it happens.

They have to pick and chose because if they did something for every atrocity then the game would never kick off

What's the difference between Romans money and the City and Newcastle owners money?

Absolutely nothing, both rich of shady deals and slave labour but the west is in bed with the middle East so they won't say Jack.

More People are dead in Qatar making these stadiums for the WC than the Ukraine war.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be a scandal if City were remotely connected to Qatar.

The connection is already documented. People, particularly the governing body, don't care...

The UAE has absolutely no connection to Qatar, the two countries don't even like each other.
