Last Night In Soho- Masterpiece

I managed to watch this on Saturday night after meaning to get to the cinema last year to catch it. It's an Edgar Wright movie and the production of it is just gorgeous, he always manages to light up a screen with true art and I feel this is very much on point for him. There is definitely social commentary in the plot, especially after what has happened in recent times with Weinstein.

The lead actresses, Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy are brilliant, especially McKenzie who I had never seen before. She gives a truly layered and versatile performance in every sense of the word. No matter where the movie goes to, she goes with it in every direction and pulls it off like a world class actress.

The plot is a bit of a supernatural murder mystery, but it has horror elements to it too and if you like 1960's London then you'll love this film. Essentially Thomasin's character lives in the modern world but is obsessed with the 1960's and gets a scholarship to attend a fashion college in London.

She moves into a shared house and is transported back in time to 1960's London when she falls asleep, where she witnesses Taylor-Joy's life through a third person perspective. There is real intrigue with what is going on and it soon becomes clear that Taylor-Joy's character dreams of being the next Cilla Black but gets involved with the wrong crowd.

It really struggled at the box office, which baffled me because there is real genius in this movie from all angles. It's a masterpiece and I highly recommend anybody to watch it. Awesome 60's soundtrack too!
