I'm pretty sure none of us want him to go but if you were him would you stay beyond this season if we don't get CL football?
Theres a very good chance Ronaldo, Cavani and Pogba will all be gone which I'm sure won't sit well with him. It's also very likely Maguire will still be a starting CB for us given nobody is going to buy him and we won't bench an 80m player.
Bruno is another I think might be starting to get cold feet. Don't see that new contract being signed any time soon. He'd be crazy to commit right now until he knows the direction.
What a mess we truly are.

Varane is probably hoping we bring in a Rudiger or a Kounde to play alongside and has hope he won’t be burdened with Maguire for much longer

Not only will that not happen given those players will have CL offers but this club won't disregard Harry Maguire like he's Phill Jones. Not a cat in hells chance.
He might not be our captain next season but I bet he's still playing regularly for us. Who is going to sign him?

The board/management will continue to have all these vanity signings/contracts because for them a scrappy top four finish with commercial gains is success. Only relegation will ensure Utd gets rid of these parasitic contracts. Sadly that will be the final nail in the coffin of the once might Utd.
