William Hurt

Who has just died was one of my favourite actors.
We often have posts on movie stars and you will never see his name mentioned, But he had power on the screen and effortlessly dominated every film he was in.

Absolutely loved Hackman as little bill in unforgiven

So did I, even though I guess Clint got star billing. Which really brings me back to Hurt who seemed to dominate films even when there were other stars

Clint directed it. Probably produced it or executive producer. Plus he is/was a bigger box office draw.
Clint is 90 now and still going strong. Never liked his politics, but can't name a western he was in that I wouldn't watch any time.

The good the bad and the ugly is probably my favourite ever film

James Hetfield’s too 😉

Hard to have an absolute favourite but.
Get Carter
The long good Friday
Mona Lisa
Withnail and I
Are all up there, I could probably give another six

I always find it surprising how well Holywood fils do in the UK, compared to UK produced films.

Hurt has been in loads of stuff. Not especially old when he died either so it's a shame.

I enjoyed his brief but memorable role in A History of Violence. I always thought his "HOW DID YOU FACK THAT UP?" scene should have been a meme.

It's because they are realistic that makes them good.

It's actually a brilliant film and one of the best westerns outside sergios trilogy and rooster cogburn

He's good in The Quick and The Dead too.

Don’t forget Enemy of the State. Bit late to the Gene Hackman part of the debate but most top actors out here would out Gene Hackman among the very best to do it. He was hugely respected and a true great.
