A town of Big Dans

There could be a big honour on the cards for Daniel Amartey.

Now I know what you’re going to say: “What bigger honour could there possibly be than playing for Leicester?" Well, sir, you have a strong point and I’m not arguing. But how about getting a whole town named after you?

As part of an urban development project in the Western North region of Ghana, there is currently building work taking place on a site for industrial and sporting excellence, along with a new town for an initial projected hundred-thousand inhabitants - the idea being for this to become a westernised hub for the country and a home for new talent and technology in the country. And one of the most important things that a new town needs? A name.

For this, a new online campaign has been launched to name the town, with the popular consensus being that - given its proposed sporting status - it be given both a westernised name, and also named after a Ghanaian footballer who is currently playing in the Premier League. And this is how “Amartcester" could be born.

At the very least, it has got down the final three in the voting - which is pretty fair going. The obvious favourite is “Parteytown", although rumours have it that the powers that be in Ghana aren’t keen on this being selected, figuring for obvious reasons that it gives the wrong impression for the new settlement being created. As such, it’s reckoned behind the scenes that, in fact, the real battle is between “Amartcester" and “Schluppsville".

The vote will take place on Twitter, with an official announcement taking place from the GFA later today, but users are encouraged to simply post “#Amartcester" (or one of the other two if you’re so inclined; but come on now), with all tweets counted and tallied at a later date.

So come on Leicester fans, get to it. Big Dan needs you.

Dunge, welcome back, you've been missed.
I assume we have until noon to vote?

I figure these things are all about momentum, so the sooner the better.

Dunge - I also think it's great to see your usual post back.

In regard to the topic of the thread, I'd possibly have gone for Shlupp Palace if that had been an option, but am happy to support Amartcester (although Dancester would perhaps have been even better?). Hopefully many will be able to vote before the mid-day deadline.

Dunge, thanks for clarifying. It’s good to see our Daniel being honoured in his home country. He gets my vote.

Can I be controversial? I prefer Schulppsville…

I can't believe Amarty is ahead in the voting, when Parteytown is clearly a much better name. Is the voting rigged, must be utter fools?

Hmm. I don't see anything in the above posts that supports that theory. Doesn't that mean you are the AF DS?
