Who Fits Ten Hag Ball?

I must admit, and I am sure this is most likely the case for a lot of United fans, I don't know much about Ten Hag and I'm mostly just jumping on the bandwagon since I know Ajax play nice football and have statistically been very good in recent years.

If the internet is to be believed (which it shouldn't be), it sounds like he's similar to Pep in that he has very specific idea as to how football should be played. A lot of triangles, overloads, quick passing etc.

So I'm just curious, which of our current players would suit Ten Hag's style of play? Let's say he was in charge for the remaining 8 games, what would his starting XI look like? Or would it be a similar case to Klopp and Liverpool, where he literally ripped the team apart over the course of a few years.

Yeah that’s fair. We obviously still need better but I don’t think Fred’s going to be flogged with a new manager. Hopefully McTominay will be.

It kills me watching McTominay.

He can’t even get in the facking Scotland midfield but he starts regularly for us.

I mean the Prem has been spoilt with some of the world's greatest box-to-box midfielders, so compared to the likes of Essien, Viera, Keane, Gerrard, Toure, obviously Fred is nowhere near that level. But I think given the current state of our full backs, CBs, CM, ST and RW, I think he has a place in the squad next season and arguably, starting XI.

Then I look at Newcastle who have Guimaraes on the bench. It's pure pain.

Shelvey and Fred keep him out of the team for club and country. Shows how class they are.

Indeed.

He's been doing well for Brazil recently when he's featured.

I think Fred's been our best player under Rangnick, playing a less restricted role and directly contributing to quite a few goals as a result.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ten Hag finds use for him given how effective he could be under him when it comes to high and counter-pressing.

Fred gets a lot of bad press from some of our fans on here. He is way more deserving of a starting place than any of our other midfielders.

I think there's definitely some truth to this and this is also a sad indictment of where we are as a club as we are never going to get anywhere with Fred as a regular starter. He's far too loose on the ball to play as a number 8 that wants to challenge at the very top and he's also not a good DM at all.

I agree he's been the best of a very bad bunch though.

Being South American means he’ll never be good enough.
