Player ratings vs. Crystal Palace

I was planning to give KDH a 5 and Tielemans an 8 regardless just for sh!ts and giggles, but I fear that would be too obvious a hook today. Although naturally it was effectively a dead rubber and Youri doubtless understood that.

Here are my ratings:

Schmeichel: 8 - Hard to argue with two penalty saves. Unlucky with the rebounds.
Justin: 8 - Dealt with Zaha very well, and maintained an attacking presence.
Amartey: 7 - Played well, although there was some nervousness on the ball, plus an air kick or two. I’d be happy to see him get a new contract.
Soyuncu: 8 - Aggressive in the challenge, supported Thomas well. Looked more like how we knew him in the past.
Thomas: 5 - Today we saw some of the areas he needs to improve. Got dispossessed, needs a personal throw-in coach, needs some time on his crossing. He’s played very well at times this season but this was an inconsistent day.
Mendy: 7 - Given an interesting tactical challenge today as Palace tried to block his passing lanes and ask whether he wanted to dribble forward. He answered them well.
Tielemans: 5 - Always brings a needed elegance to the play from the back, but was carried at times today and gave away a stonewall penalty.
Dewsbury-Hall: 10 - In the week I asked for substance from him. Today he provided it with a goal and assist, both well-taken. But his reading of the game was also excellent, supporting teammates in and out of possession, and picking up loose balls. Unquestionable choice for our MOTM.
Maddison: 7 - Strong performance, managing the attack well and contributing defensively. Just missing a goal contribution today, and his flop in attempt of a penalty was a bit sad.
Lookman: 8 - Looks a lot better on the left than the right. Rather butchered an early chance but took his goal very well. I also liked a charge back tracking a dangerous run from Clyne resulting in him winning the ball in the corner and breaking up a dangerous Palace attack. You have to see that from wingers at times.
Daka: 5 - No shortage of willing and did play a part in the second goal; but he looks lost at times, unsure of how to influence the game. Needs to be angling more runs in behind for me.

Iheanacho: 6 - Showed more certainty in his role than Daka, although left top low a lonely furrow.
Barnes: 5 - Frustrating. Seems to drift in and out of form. Tracked back ok, but didn’t challenge the Palace defence in the way that he should. Had the opportunity to terrorise and didn’t.
Castagne: n/a - Brought on at right midfield primarily with the aim of cropping Zaha. Which he did, somehow also escaping without a yellow card.

As has been said, both sides could be forgiven for having their attentions elsewhere today. But we still got a decent contest and a win for a team primarily consisting of our reserves. Players like Justin, Soyuncu and Lookman will have given the manager something to think about.
But today was, of course, the KDH show. We know he’s not the most elegant player but today he was very effective. How the midfield will look following what will likely be an active summer is somewhat up in the air, but right now it’s hard to imagine than Dewsbury-Hall won’t be part of it.

There's no point unless Barnes moves on, Lookman is Great on the Left, scores nearly very time but is a shadow of that player on the Right where Todgers keeps playing him.

Bit Like playing Maddison on the Right, Lookman up front or any other of the other mystifying decisions Todgers does.

Good ratings post Dunge and I enjoyed you mr Castagne comment 😂.

A 10 from Dunge is no mean feat and goes to show how impressive KDH was yesterday. He still has some development to do but if he’s continues at the rate he is he’ll be the complete midfielder. He could easily compliment Maddison and Ndidi if we went back the the single pivot and a number 10 and he clearly works in a 3.

However I’m not sure he’s nest used in what I think is Rodgers preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. In fact there are quite a few players that currently don’t look like they fit in our formations. Daka being a key one that we need to fix. He has lots of talent but plating up top on his own and linking play with wingers is not his game. One for Rodgers to resolve in the summer but we are currently imbalanced in midfield and that’s what he needs to resolve.

I'd give him 10 points, him 5 points....jeez, you know you are 9th right, just about holding on in a European competition everybody is laughing about ( even your manager didn't know about it ) and are getting all exited about beating Palace for 10th.

Get real eh ?

Says it all about the mentality of a significant minority of ‘fans’ really. Wouldn’t it be great if we could eliminate the moronic element and go back to the days when proper supporters could just watch football matches without the need for them to be segregated? Reinforces the us and them mentality.

Spurs having a great season, looking good for beating the Gunners to that coveted 4th spot. Obviously the home match on the 12th will be key although Chelsea may be able to assist.

It's a 10 for Dunge, but only a 5 for you (SteveF) I'm afraid

You can always tell when Spurs have won a couple of games - they send their WUM merchants out to spam other boards.

Slow news day today Steve? Nothing in the papers to get butthurt by? Ah well, I'm sure you'll be foaming at the mouth at the next Kane to City article in the press soon enough.

You’d give him a 5 Joby?

Worth no more than a 2 for me. Didn’t even try to make it amusing or believable. Just a bit of naff abuse.

Thinking about it, it’s a 1. Even Youri Tielemans would have don’t a better WUM and he can’t do anything right now.

I was being generous Mersey or, you could perhaps say, charitable.

I've no doubt that a true rating would probably be more Vestergaard than Dewsbury-Hall.

The irony of a Spurs fan getting 'sniffy' about the Europa Conference League. It's a bit like a Harrogate Town fan getting all dismissive about the Papa Johns Trophy.
