Just think. He's about to get a big promotion within the club even after pretty much being a failure as a manager.
What a club
Let's just hope Ten Hag will have all the power he needs to make footballing decisions as the new manager and this Ralf Rangnick guy will not be stepping in too much.
Rangnick

Ralf is like that Tv show ‘undercover boss’.
He’s watched the players close up and now can form an objective opinion of what it’s like on a day to day basis and can give the skinny to ETH on who is trustworthy and who puts in effort

In what industry do consultants work for long hours? He’s there to be consulted about the clubs plans, that doesn't require day to day work does it?

It doesn't take long to say 'terrible idea'. Six minutes a month should be enough. He should just do it in Gif form to send every time there's a terrible idea. It'll be well used.

How is moving from first team manager to consultant a promotion?

No idea. The OP isn’t known for having any football knowledge.

No need for that.

I think keeping Rangnick on as a consultant is a good move. He knows what ETH wants to achieve and will know which of the players will be able to help him achieve that.
If you think the players are not giving 100%, then his record as an interim is neither here nor there... If anything, it will have further highlighted those players who are unwilling to change their ways for the betterment of the club.

All rangnick is doing this year is identifying all the excess fat to be trimmed. You can't expect a new manager with a plan to work with this bunch of underachievers.

Keeping Rangnick should speed up the process of Ten Hag knowing which players in his squad suit what he wants if Ralf is someone that he trusts and values the opinion of.
