Where we deserve to be

Lots of ( probably understandable to a point ) negative and in some cases the usual extreme reactions on here following another lack lustre performance.

But when the dust settles, do we really think we are a CL team, or is probably 5th and a Europe place about where Spurs are right now ?

We all know from proven history, that building a squad that can realistically compete takes time ( years ), a lot of money and quality recruitment.

Let's say we did, somehow finish 4th, how far do we think this team, even with a couple of upgrades can go in that competition ?

For me, we probably would struggle to get out of the group, and therefore the only positive would be to stop Arsenal qualifying. Although their fate in the competition would be just the same.Pointless.

Whilst the recent run of results ( prior to Brighton ) has generated a lot of hope from us, but the truth is we have a bang average squad, and achieving a 5th place finish is probably progress, but is realistically slightly over achieving.

The reactions on here are, probably being compounded by the fact that the last team in the world we wan't going past us, is what is happening.
Coupled with the classic situation of seeing a few good results, and increasing our belief that something can be achieved. Only to fall even further back to reality.

Yes we do consistently hand opportunities to others. It's what Spurs do. But I would argue that just about every Spurs fan would have taken 5th at the time we sacked Nuno.

With our stagnant squad strength, lack of investment, and the obvious improvement of several other clubs over the last few years, why would we expect anything other than top 6 at the moment ?

Yes we need squad movement in and out next year, but are we really that far off where we, as a club should be ? Just look elsewhere for a minute. Utd are a much bigger club than us, have a billion pound squad, and yet are in a total mess. Much worse than we are.

Look at Arsenal. Once a top two guaranteed team, yet are no further forward than Spurs, and continue to hide behind the "they are still developing" excuses, and have been for about 6/7 years. Are they better placed than Spurs next season ?

Personally there is stuff to look forward to, and outside the top two, just about every other PL club has worries of one sort or another.

Squad & ownership wise you are a 5th/6th place team, with Conte you should be 4th & probably will be next season.

With ENIC around you are a club that'll need a great manager to match/exceed your expectations, just the way it is.

Not particularly concerned. Son has just signed a bumper contract so can’t see him leaving. If Conte and Kane leave then so be it. We will get good money for Kane and Poch will come back as manager.

Ideally Conte stays and he build the squad he wants. Football changes so quickly, fack knows what’s gonna happen

I think we have hyped Conte. He's managed Inter, Juve and Chelsea. He's done well but these aren't Tottenham level teams that are 4th or 5th best in their leagues.

Conte is definitely the type of manager we need that understands what it's like to be a successful outfield player but I won't be shedding any tears if he walks.

I despise arsenal more than anyone but they deserve 4th. At least when they lose they actually have chances and a lot of the time unfortunate to lose. Unlike when spurs dont win they don't have a chance all game most of the time.

5th is about right and I said as such at the start of the season and that we had 5th best squad in the league and got laughed at.

It's just arsenal are 4th at our expense cause united are a shambles. And arsenal aren't as good as us imo in personel or club position. We completely wasted our best position as a club.

Hey ho, they're a massive club and were gonna crawl back ahead eventually.

The idea is to qualify for the champions League and improve the squad. Spurs don't really look like they know what they're doing, but can be encouraged by the last few signings. Romero, and the two juve players they farmed to your director. But levy will always hold you back and Contes future is, as always, up in the air.

Last summer, arsenal did a lot of good business, despite everybody's reservations. The idea is to continue that.

Massive club in terms of fans. They out number us greatly and they have more trophies except for European ones. Apart from those two metrics we have closed the gap in terms of finance and spend.

I would still take Spurs current squad over Arsenals, even though a lot at Spurs need upgrading. Man United should have at least got a point yesterday, if not all three.

We are a CL and trophy winning club in every aspect except for our ownership, who operate as a business first and football club second. To ENIC, finishing 4th is success, not silverware.
