Pep has been called a failure because he hasn’t won the CL since 2011 but I think it’s a slightly unfair way to judge a manager.
Real Madrid pretty much fluked their way through 3 rounds. It wasn’t great management. It was plenty of luck and individual brilliant moments.
If this Ancelotti managed Real Madrid side was in the PL they wouldn’t be near the title race imo.
While you can use both to judge a manager to an extent, I think league performances provide a bigger picture.
Is the CL a fair way to judge a manager?

The CL is a cup competition. There’s plenty of winners who were not in theory the best side in Europe
Liverpool in 05 didn’t even qualify for the CL in the league that season
Di Matteo at Chelsea..
And that’s just the English contingent it’s very rare that you see the likes of United in 08 or the Barca team of 09-12 actually win the CL.
Usually they dominate at home but slip up in Europe whereas other teams prioritize cups

Yeah no doubt. Shankly is clearly a great manager but he is a rare case of being so and not winning the European Cup.

Wait - I misread your comment and didn't realise you had clarified with "in the league". My bad.

No we didn't. We finished 5th and were allowed in due to winning the CL, not for finishing 5th.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh yeah
But but but we wouldn't have won the CL if we hadn't qualified for it via the league the previous season.
