SCHMEICHEL / IVERSEN

55 years ago, Gordon Banks was the best goalkeeper there ever was and the first name on the England team sheet (perhaps second after Bobby Moore). Yet in 1967, even he was surprised when Leicester decided he could be transferred to Stoke, so that the young Peter Shilton could move up to the first team.

With Kasper Schmeichel considering his options when his current contract starts to run down I wonder if history might repeat itself and his apparent successor in the Danish national team Daniel Iversen could come through to the first team.

By all accounts he has had another great season on loan at Preston and they appear to be very keen to keep him. He has had plenty of plaudits for his shot stopping ability and at 6’4’’ he should be half decent on crosses and corners, which Schmeichel clearly isn’t.

How would we all feel about that?

At 35 Kasper isn't old for a keeper, he may well choose to be around for a few more years yet.

Grossly unfair on Danny Ward who hasn't had much opportunity to shine yet. One thing that would be markedly improved if he were to replace Kasper is commanding his area.

For Iversen, he looks like a good keeper - in the Championship. Could he make the step up? I'm suspicious that he may be at his level, he's no spring chicken at 24, so I'd be wary of relying on him.

Think tonight is the end of an era with a rebuild necessary and also need to reduce wage bill to meet new UEFA Rules. Wouldn't surprise me if Kasper moves in the summer but at his behest, not the clubs.

Also, wouldn't be surprised if Vardy announced his retirement!

Hopefully not, he looks like he may be good for another year at least. We definitely need a replacement lined up though.

I wouldn't trust Rodgers to rebuild a dolls house, please don't let him destroy the Club further.

Interesting comment, how do you reckon Rodgers is destroying the club?

I'm asking this with a background of successive European campaigns for the first time and an FA Cup victory for the first time as two of his achievements - what does building the club up look like then if this is destruction?

Now the one thing to remember this is just my opinion but

I believe the Two Years that we came 5th were very lucky for Rodgers for 3 Reasons

1/ No Fans, the stats show how well we did in away games - This Season has become more normal with Fans returned.

2/ 'Lucky' Injuries - Meant that players who would have waited a lot longer for a chance got thrown in and blossomed, it wasn't a masterclass by rodgers but a neccessity, Fofana and Justin both were initially understudies, Thomas from the reserves also profitted from this as did the Club and Rodgers.

3/ Those same 'Lucky' Injuries also meant we couldn't play 'Rodgers Ball' , he didn't have the right Team for that, quite often when he had no choice but to change the style of play we were successful.

As I already mentioned, this Season has become more of the norm ( especially second half of the Season ) where we've played Rodger ball, what a Dud that is and deservedly mid table or Lower Half the way he is taking us.

Injuries

I put the blame of a good proportion of the Injuries directly as Rodgers Door, he got rid of Dave Rennie who's Team had a fantastic record for the lack of injuries which definately helped in our Promotion.

It would appear from them that Team and Style has been demolished, a part Time Doctor to replace Rennie and a Sports Team that doesn't seem to know it's Rs from it's elbow now or more sinister is over ruled by Rodgers!

Remember Ricardo and Soyuncu thrown into the icy wastelands of the Europa League, both injured from a stupid decision by who ever to play them in such conditions, I remember Rodgers downplaying one of the injuries suggesting the player ( Cags I think ) being nervous about a slight bit of pain, he was then out for about another 3 Months, the sign of things to come under Rodgers and I'd suggest his lack of interest in protecting his players and using them for his own needs.

Some will talk about fractures etc but we've never had the slightest amount of soft tissue injuries like we've had, players injured in warm ups 2-3 times this Season, Vardy left on the pitch while injured etc.

This Season we've seen the pressure Rodgers has onbviously come under.

It's the Fans Fault

The Fans expect too much

We've over achieved.

The Players aren't good enough, I need new players.

We don't have a big enough budget to compete.

Yet 3 Years under Rodgers and he's destroyed our defensive capabilities, all down to him, everyone knew it was zonal marking was the issue, change to man marking and while it's not perfect it's more 'normal' , it would barely get mentioned if we hadn't been so distastrous zonal marking for the first half the Year.

So yes, I do believe he's destroying our Club from the inside, I'm seriously concerned if he's allowed to 'rebuild' the Club, I believe he'll be a disaster and that would be a disaster for us, the Premier League is such a fine line between success and disaster we could be back in the Championship wilderness before we know it.

What decent Players would want to come to us, a mid Table boring East Midlands Team under Rodgers.

PS - Threw all his eggs in one basket, we had every chance of getting Europe threw the League but he thought he saw the easier route.

I honestly hope Top gave him the target of Europe or else.

TB, sometimes I think you’re over critical and irrational but there’s not a lot I can disagree with you there.

It’s a massive summer for Rodgers. I feel like we’re in decline and get it wrong and he’s gone next season. I still hope he gets it right, but I worry he won’t.

I defended him when others were critical because we didn't get CL but the picture was building of his disastrous reign, we are in decline and for a Club like Leicester that is a Disaster.

As far as it goes, the main problem is our inability to defend corners and set pieces. Rodgers and his team have apparently tried every available option, to no avail. It has even been suggested that we hire a specialist set piece expert.

Call me an old cynic if you like but the problem is as plain as day. I really don’t like to castigate Schmeichel because he has been a great servant of our club but the fact remains he is mostly worse than useless on corners. Even when we cause the numbers in the penalty area to be reduced by leaving three attackers on the half way line he still rarely commands his six yard box. That is why we concede so many from set pieces. Why on earth we are paying Stowell as goalkeeping coach is beyond me. It’s not as if he was a master of the art in his own right.
Apologies for the rant.
Hence the original post re Iversen!

Schmeichel is a small part of the problem, same Keeeper as when we won the League and happy to let teams barrage us with crosses expertly defended by two journeymen defenders.

Rodgers is the issue, he changed the style to zonal, the odd goal we concede now is normal but is exaggerated by terrible zonal marking goals conceded.

Get rid of Rodgers, get rid of the problem.

PS - Fofana was bought because he was known to be good in the air, WTF was he not marking the Main Danger man last night!!

He’s a very insecure defensive man when things aren’t going his way. To be fair, manager managers are like that including the best. Klopp and Pep are awful for it. Blame everyone but yourself!
