Man U -v- Nottm Forest - Match Thread

First things first - a record FA Youth Cup attendance is on the cards for this game, with Old Trafford having officially sold out —70,000-plus, including circa 6,000 travelling Trickies. Absolutely superb.

NFFC’s U18’s first year in Category One football see them currently fourth place in the league (just behind Man U U18’s on goal difference) and also secure a Cup Final place. Outstanding.

Possible Line-ups:

MUFC U18 Starting XI – Vitek, Marc Jurado, Tyler Fredricson, Rhys Bennett, Sam Murray, Daniel Gore, Kobbie Mainoo, Sam Mather, Isak Hansen-Aaröen, Alejandro Garnacho and Charlie McNeill

NFFC U18 Starting XI - nine lads from Nottingham (eight local first years, one schoolboy) plus two second years from Ireland.

This is unlikely to be a David -v- Goliath type contest - as Man United are actually quite a big club too. Also, they’ll be fighting tooth and nail for some silverware out of this, so it’s far from certain that this will be the walk in the park for the Trees that the recent games versus Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool were.

Here’s hoping for a great game!

Good games. Forest can consider themselves pretty unlucky really. Best of luck in the playoffs though. I'd like to see Garner in the PL perhaps for another season's loan if ETH decides he'd benefit more from that. Would also like to see Brennan Johnson in the PL. Forest also arguably the biggest team outside the Premier League so would be good to see them back.

I don’t think they were that unlucky. They didn’t really create much.

I meant with the pen but it would have been red as well wouldn't it if outside the box. Good to win though!

3-1 United. Penalty for a foul outside the box to put us 2-1 up the turning point. Though it should be added that it was a nailed on red card if ref had given it as a free kick outside the box

Didn’t realise the ref could make a choice, for it to be a penalty I thought it had to be inside the penalty area. Still strange refereeing decisions have been the story of the season. Congrats to Utd, great experience for all involved, it can only help them realise what a big occasion it is to play in both a final and in front of a large and passionate crowd. Well done.

Yep – another officiating blunder! Unbelievable. I appreciate that these things are supposed to even themselves out over a season, but (if so) as a club we have a hell of a lot in the bank. Hey-ho.

Other than that, an excellent evening. A record crowd of 67,192 (with circa 5,700 travelling Trickies) provided a super atmosphere that the players will no doubt remember for a lifetime.

Very little between the two sides in terms of skill/ability/commitment etc, with ‘the penalty that was but which shouldn’t have been’ a major turning point. Well done to all the lads and congrats to MUFC on the silverware. Most of our lot are of an age where they will get to have another go next season.

Whatever happens, the future’s bright for NFFC (regardless of whether we keep that ‘blood & custard’ strip!).

Well done all.

Brennan Johnson is a talent. He'll need to cut out the outrageous diving in the PL though or he'll very quickly get a reputation. He's not even subtle with it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Johnson was booked for diving early in the season when it looked like a foul and a penalty.

Since then I can't remember any obvious dives from him, but refs have turned a blind eye to him being repeatedly fouled (eg against Bournemouth) and staying on his feet. Seems he just can't win.

Mess of an away kit, seriously, it’s brilliant, best we’ve had in decades, hope it doesn’t change much for next season. It’s like our football under Cooperman, bright and expansive, not dull like previous kits/teams.

Quite right part_time. I think it was the Sheff Undead game at the City Ground.

merrysupersteve - have a look at these highlights - 45 seconds in - and let us know if this is the diving Brennan Johnson you are talking about...
