Orta and transfers

Before I begin, let me just make clear that my mood right now is completely deflated, so it should explain the tone and content of what follows.

I know we still have 2 games to go before we know which league we'll be playing in next season, but I think, like many people are suggesting, we'll be facing a major clear out of the playing squad.

It's probably not good to take much notice of the Newsnow site and the "reliable journalists", but some of the reports make me wonder about the club's transfer policy going forward.

It's already being stated that Orta is intending to sign an 18 year old player for next season.

Haven't we seen enough of this already?

After this season's failures and shortcomings with the playing staff, shouldn't the emphasis be on recruiting players with experience at the required level?

I worry about the club's ambition, even at Championship level, to build a strong squad equipped to make a decent stab at promotion.

I have to admit I'm so disillusioned with it all right now that I'm far from confident the owners will be sensibly pro-active in the transfer market. You only need to look to last summer to see how our recruitment worked out and the consequences we have been facing all season.

If we go down, what with parachute payments and the money from the sales of our established top players, I don't want to be reading about the next crop of creche signings. There'll be no excuse whatsoever for not investing in older, experienced players to challenge for promotion.

I may be over-reacting but it's my lack of faith in Orta and the club's transfer policy that has prompted this article.

Just want to get this season over with because it's been nothing short of torture.

I need an injection of positivity from someone or somewhere to overturn this nagging doubt about our future under the current leadership.

Good luck to what's left of the playing squad for tomorrow against Brighton.

I let go of my anger. It makes it easier to process
the situation. I think the 18 year old is the highly
rated right back in Scotland who Liverpool also
want. For context and all that. He could start for us.

You or I could start for us with the way we've been losing first-team players this season!

In a strange way it's hard hard gage we should be signing

We've gone for expensive internationals like Rodrigo Llorente and Koch and there are question marks. Firpo and James also

The best players we've had seem to have been the championship pros like Bamford Phillips Ayling and Dallas

Maybe the answer is to try and find a few unknown hidden gems regardless of whether we go down or stay up

Yorkie, all of those signings that flopped were bought to fit MB's system. A very picky set of criteria. Which we know is probably like getting into the NASA space programme.

I'm all for seeing who Marsch feels fits his system.
Not Bielsa's. That's who Marsch is working with now.

Yeah it's important to put it in context cos the kid would likely start as you said. I'd actually argue that's shrewd business tbh.

It seems a bit strange to be linked with young RB Ramsey when we already have Drameh.

Think I'm over sensitive atm. Ayling is 31 and not the future. I would expect us to blood Drameh if we go down. He has game time in the Championship and played out of his skin. Also, he is 20 and I wonder if an 18 year prospect would be happy to sit behind someone 2 years older waiting for a chance or hoping that the first choice leaves. If Ramsey is that good then he's not going to wait forever.

Another player who was impressing out on loan is Bogusz until his injury. These players need to be given game time to gain experience but there needs to be a balance between older experienced heads and youth. I don't think we have enough of the former in key positions, apart from CBs and wingers, to be a serious threat at any level.

Marsch will have an idea from what he has on what he needs.

I very much doubt that he has seen anything of our loanees and won't see them till summer by cwhich time surely plans already in progress to get new players in.

I just don't see any of the loanees (Drameh perhaps excepted) as the solution next season.

Plans already made based on staying up or going down, if going down then Raphinha, Philips and Meslier will need replacing.

Why Meslier?

I am not convinced that Drameh's experience with us has been entirely positive. I think Bielsa's handling of the more junior playing may well lead to some of our better U23's wanting a move away. Drameh proved himself more than good enough at Cardiff. Marsch may prove an asset in convincing players such as Crysencio and Cody that their futures lay with us.

I would like to see us next year starting with a line up that draws heavily on those U23's.

Clubs who come back up usually keep the bulk of the side who went down with us I could see Kalvin, Raph, Meslier, Rodrigo, Bamford, Koch, Llorente going which is a large chunk to replace, I would sell Kalvin, Raph, Rodrigo and Llorente the others would be told they are staying (not easy I know as some have relegation clauses in there contracts) and go from there,
