Hoping for a City title win

I’ve heard numerous times that it’s “embarrassing" that United fans wanted and celebrated a City title win.

I’m not sure any United fan is happy that City won the league, more that Liverpool didn’t.

Nothing wrong with hoping that your biggest rival doesn’t succeed imo.

If it was Everton competing with United for a title (not sure which seems more laughable at the minute) I’m sure 99% of Liverpool fans would be hoping for an Everton win.

Completely agree OP.

Having had time away from the forum, it’s really noticeable how people seem devoid of common sense and to take this place so very seriously.

What is this really?

It’s football fans having a laugh at other football fans expense.

There are far more Liverpool fans on this forum (and in the country), and on this occasion they were very much on for a quadruple… you’d have to be mad to expect United fans not to be backing City in the main and to appear confused or amused by that really suggests you’ve lost all concept of how normal people behave.

Absolutely no doubt it’d be the same with roles reversed - there’s no high ground here.

I don't think there is any confusion at all. It's just a not very thinly veiled attempt at saying "United aren't very good, are they?" Something I think all United fans are aware of.

City aren't our local rivals. Didn't think that through, did you?

….

No one said they were.

Didn’t think that through did you?

I didn't say anyone said they were.

I never said you did. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Did United fans celebrate city winning the title, or Liverpool losing the title? Bit of a difference.

I was on a stag do at the weekend, I was the only city fan, was a right mix of fans of different clubs. They all wanted us to win though, not motivated by liking us at all but a bigger dislike of Liverpool.

I don’t think it’s a United thing as such, think it’s partly an age thing, we all ranged from our early to late forties and that’s when Liverpool went through a boom in market town supporters and a lot of people either supported them or really disliked the people that did!

I had a very good experience on the kop in the late eighties (when everyone around us knew we were city fans) and haven’t minded them since really.

Whoever you wanted to win it, fair play to Liverpool for taking city right to the wire. It's even more remarkable when you consider that 63% of their squad are asthmatic when the national average is only 12%.

Think he was referring to the media there more than the fans. Agree he got the overall sentiment wrong though!
