i would give it 6/10. Getting back in Europe was the target and it was achieved. Finishing 5th after 2 8th places is an improvement. Also after the very poor start after 3 games. For me the best performances were the 3-1 win over Spurs and the 2-1 win over Wolves
The downside was 13 defeats - Losing to Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea is acceptable but the likes of Brighton H , Crystal Pace A, Southampton A, Everton A Brentford A are not acceptable.
Failing to get CL after being 4 points clear with 3 games left was another low point especially after having only 1 game a week
Failing to replace Aubameyang in January was a big mistake
We are a young team with scope for improvement . A striker in the transfer window is key. I would take Jesus. I think Tielemans would improve the team also.

Ultimately disappointed as top 4 was in our hands for large chunks of the season.
We've had big messes to deal with this season. A wantaway captain, a COVID outbreak at the start of the season that they refused to postpone, the usual injuries at precisely the wrong moments, not having a a proper striker for the majority of the season.
On the other hand, there's still lots of room for improvement, and we are seeing great developments in our young players, especially from the academy. The atmosphere at the ground has improved a lot as we've invested in a bunch of talented and likable players who also have room for improvement.
6/10 for me aswell.

At the beginning of the season I would have said that 5th was a 9/10 season , however as the season progressed the team exceeded my expectation in terms of league position. What changed it into a 6/10 season for me was not losing to Spurs ir Newcastle but the 9 points we surrendered to Palace , Brighton and Southampton.

As mentioned above the goal posts shifted from beginning of season to end. I think most people thought we'd not get close to 4th based on previous seasons and underwhelming signings (despite the eye-watering figures involved)
However things were pretty decent for much of the season results wise, our new signings did really well and rivals were so bad they sacked their managers.
To have the lead we did and to fall short though does make this overall a failure. There's no excuse for bottling the last couple of games in the way we did.

All the usual excuses being brought out ( again ) in this post.
Stop telling us you are a "young" team, which is the 'go to' excuse you have been using for 6/7 years.
This just does not wash with the rest of us. First, you spend £200m in the transfer window, and, here's a thought...buy older players. If you don't and rely on "kids" as you call them, then that's on you.
Getting 5th is improvement, and is what we were aiming for at the start of the year. OMG what rubbish. You lot were prepared to kill to get 4th ahead of Spurs, and I saw literally hundreds of gooners in utter despair after the NLD. Stop trying to kid people. You wanted 4th as much as anyone else. You are now diluting it down because you didn't get it.

Who's been saying we're a young team for 6 or 7 years? Give your head a wobble, Steve.

We are the youngest team in the PL, that's fact, not opinion or an excuse.
We would have taken 5th at the start, but we overachieved, which raised expectations, then fell short at the final hurdle.
We didn't spend £200 mil like your saying and i have feeling, whatever AFC do, will not 'wash' with you, why would it, your our rival

What's funny though is the young players are the ones that we rely on. The older members of the squad rarely perform

The little bit of hope is that of those older players who do perform are Edu buys (Partey). So some hope that he knows what he is doing on another £150m spend this summer.

Despite how bad , infuriating and downright unprofessional some performances and decisions were, Mikel Arteta has still won more than Spurs who complete 14 years without a trophy
