Empty Pockets

Perhaps I'm naïve, thick, or both but can somebody please explain to me how a football club that is over £1 billion in debt can still operate in the transfer market and presume to splash out tens of millions on a player?

There are reports that Raph has put in a transfer request and that Barcelona are seeking to step up negotiations to sign him, this after having had an initial offer of £46.5 million rejected - a price tag that would reach over £55 million with add-ons.

At what point does the bank say no?

I wouldn't sell jack for 40m. He's our best player. We have to keep all the top players we can.

Really? Good player but I'd take 40m

Well if the money was as going to me then yes.
But I think with the money from raph and hopefully some from other sales we won't have to sell jack or kp.

Haha

With all the talk of Jack and Firpo I always felt both would be best suited to being left wing back with 3 defenders behind them

Harrison can be intermittent but is a good player who grafts and can put a ball in.
Firpo can be decent with the ball but gets skinned a lot.

Jack's a hell of a player. Really don't want him leaving.
I think he'd excel under Marsch. Next season could be
huge for him if he stays.

I don't want Raph, KP, or Jack to leave. None of us do.

However, if Newcastle are prepared to pay 30+ mill for
Jack, Barca paying 60+ for Raph, and City paying 50-
60 mill for KP, you have to think hard about that.

My maths aren't the greatest but, a possible 150 mill
plus Prem TV money amounts to a quality rebuild.

Based on Aaronson costing 25 mill, we could turn
3 players into 6 or 7 quality adds that fit Marsch's
system. Again though, I'd rather keep KP & Jack
knowing Raph (god love him) is gone.

Board have some hard decisions to make.

But whom Batty? Who do we replace them with? If it ain’t broke I really worry about trying to fix it. Orta doesn’t exactly have a good track record does he?

West Ham we’re trying to ADD Phillips to their squad alongside Declan Rice.

I want to see the club fight to keep these players using ambition as the bait!

Otherwise, we risk becoming another Southampton, always selling and rebuilding.

One of the considerations has to be if Jack wants to leave for better prospects of winning Silverware which you have to say is probably better served on Tyneside than at LS11 at the moment.

My understanding is that Aaronson is already budgeted for so that would leave 130 M plus to pick up players such as Nketiah, O'Brien, Adams - tons of decent players to pick from who see the potential next stages of their careers.

With Jack he may have the feeling that he invested so much under MB , like a few others, and a change is as good as a rest

Could be a major rebuild on the cards as LUFC may potentially have the money to do it. - If its wrapped up early, another perennial mistake in the past avoided, JM has all summer to get them functioning as a team to his system .

I do accept however that too much change could be counter productive - who knows?

Yes Rev... my thoughts too because the successful teams are those that get their new signings done and dusted before their pre season starts with the exception of bringing in the odd new signing closer to the transfer deadline but on the whole the bulk of the transfer business is done early doors once the season ends and before the players go on their hollybobs.

Just reading that Raphina is very insistent on joining Barcelona but it looks like they can only cough up about £40 million at the most and want to make uo the difference by throwing in some defender I've not heard of so we better prepare ourselves for Firpo mark 2 heavens forbid!!!!

You have to hope that with the adversity behind us and PL experience gained Firpo is better next year - he's had a torrid time and being in a team that until recently was getting smacked 4,5,6,7,nil ( take your pick), did not help any player let alone Junior.

There's definitely a player in Firpo judging by his lovely first touch, close control, skillful little flicks and link up play but he seems to have not much pace and is easy to get past by opposing wingers so hopefully JM will use him as a midfielder

Agree about his ability, the question is whether his poor performances were down to rustiness through lack of game time over last 3 years, or a mental/effort thing?
