Justin in the England Squad

This is definitely on the merits of his achievements before he was injured as he’s been very up and down since, but he’s somebody Southgate wants to take a look at and to his benefit his ability to play in many positions makes him a good squad option for a tournament ahead of potential other players.

Credit to him and hope he learns, develops and benefits from it.

We have too many good RBs

Good to see. Shaw injured and Chilwell only just returning after months out doubtless a factor. Surprised Maddison didn’t get a call up though.

I'm not really surprised about Madders. Although he has been our best player this season he hasn't been consistently good until the latter part of the season and he faces ferocious competition to get into the England midfield spots.

Justin is the right player, but at the wrong time. He hasn’t got back to his pre-injury levels. I suppose he can cover a number of positions, which would make him a valuable squad member.

Maddison should be in as far as I’m concerned. He’s more mature and more versatile now than he was. I suppose you could argue that midfield/advanced midfield is one of the most competitive areas currently.

You compare Maddison to Mount and he should be in!

I understand his omission until you see that Southgate has his favourite in Mount who is just more defensively solid that Maddison and it makes you realise Southgate plays a system that needs 11 defenders.

It’s boring, but quite effective. I personally don’t think it gets the best out of our attacking talent personally.
