A new dawn begins at Chelsea FC

I don't know what the future holds under Boehly. But I do know that despite winning the Champions League last season we haven't been competing for titles in recent seasons and far too often have been struggling just to finish top four.

Some Europa League and domestic cup wins in recent years have padded out our trophy cabinet but aside from winning the CL out of nowhere last season we haven't been at a really high level for a long time, certainly not consistently. Not since Conte's first season and that was only one season sadly.

Hopefully under the Boehly group ownership we aim for some consistency and solidity as a club instead of this up and down circus we've become.

The model we had under Roman was fun much of the time and certainly helped us win trophies as long as he kept throwing money at the problem but it definitely wasn't a sustainable model. And our diminishing finishes in the PL prove that.

And that isn't to say that I'm not eternally grateful to Roman as we've only been able to win PL and CL trophies because of him. Roman's era will always be looked back on as a golden era and rightly so.

However we can't carry on with our constant changing of managers, constant changing of playing styles, constant changing of players to suit said constant changing of styles and changing of managers. It's a viscous cycle of utter inefficiency.

Enough of the chaos. Time to start implementing structures and long term planning at the club and to start buying players with some kind of planning behind who we buy and whether they fit our system.

Also time to fully back Tuchel who is a world class manager and one of the very best we've ever had.

Onwards and upwards to a new and undoubtedly different chapter in this great club's history.

We've undoubtedly bought some very good players in over the years, you'd expect that given our huge expenditure. But our transfer department is a car crash in my opinion. There's far too often no planning in terms of bringing in a player to suit a certain style. Far too often it's let's get this player because we think he's good and let's just hope he suits the team and style of play.

Either way I'm fully expecting a complete revolution in how we buy players at the club and it couldn't come a minute sooner because we weren't going to lay a glove on City or Liverpool in the league carrying on with this current approach.

But there was planning and still is, the problem has been patience at times by managers or Roman himself both in giving players a chance and getting the right person rather than spending on someone with a reputation who is available. The patience of fans themselves hasn't helped at times. Sometimes we, Chelsea, have been like kids in a sweet shop.

Too often our transfers have been panic buys and some of the players we've brought in clearly haven't been brought in to play in or suit any particular system. They've just been brought because they're highly rated.

We need to stop the scattergun approach to transfers as you end up with a mishmash squad which is what we too often have. Time to start thinking through each transfer carefully and going after players that we know will fit into the squad and style of play.

In particular response to your "kids in a sweet shop"......

I have to say I think any Chelsea fan who was old enough to enjoy that 03 window must have had one of the best summers ever.

It was amazing. And even though you could argue the following Summer window and hiring of Jose was even better. Nothing prepared me for the excitement of that window after Roman had just bought the club.

Even after top 4 was secured, my hope was still to hold on to the players we had and go on a run in champions league that would help the club reduce a debt that almost killed it.

Instead I was reading the papers every day and seeing either a new signing or a new link

On the subject of the restrictive triangle shape of our site things may be about to change. Apparently adjoining properties are now looking to sell for about 50 mil which wasn’t available before meaning fitting in a 60k could be easier moving forward.

That would be an ideal solution if true.
