Benzema offside

It didn't affect the result in the end but I woke up still confused by that offside decision. Wrong decision or one of those where following the letter of the law reveals the law is wrong?

Assassin, you were saying this earlier...
"As has been explained on this thread the rules exclude tackles from the definition of playing the ball deliberately."

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, and in the context of the game this has been explained to you all night.

The rule definitely does not exclude tackles from the definition of playing the ball deliberately, under any context

How can this goal be given and not Benzema’s? It’s a complete joke
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most people agreed the awarding of that goal was completely ridiculous at the time to be fair.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yea it was a farcical decision, most agreed at the time. But we were all told that that is how things would be moving forward, making Benzema’s goal being disallowed all the more bizarre

Not really since they are entirely different situations that is explicitly put into the law.

To be somewhat fair UEFA VAR has a tendency towards fast decisions whereas EPL VAR the tendency is towards correct decisions. Either way some folk are never happy.

Well yesterdays tackles are definitely excluded seeing as the goal wasn't given

It makes sense that the goal was offside. If Fabinho made a deliberate attempt to play ball then Benzema onside, like the Mings - City infamous goal

Page 1 seemed to show agreement that the incident could be interpreted in different ways, so it’s really a matter of opinion.

But then the argument went on for four more pages, includes references to nonces and mothers smoking while pregnant.

If forgotten how funny this place can be
