Has Klopp underachieved?

First of all well done on a top season. To reach 3 cup finals, play every game possible while missing out on the league by a point is some achievement.

Last night just wasn’t your night. For a team that does tend to get the rub of the green at times, I felt that it just didn’t go your way at all.

My article last night about United’s 16/17 bring better was clearly tongue in cheek also.

Anyway to the point of the article. Has Klopp underachieved?

I don’t mean that from his starting point as he’s clearly done a great job. 6 trophies in 7 years, winning it all including the PL and CL. I’m sure 7 years ago every Liverpool fan would have snapped your hand off for that when he took over. He’s creating a winning machine. Winning 26 from 27 league in 19/20 was something I’d never thought I’d see and likely won’t again. Crazy stuff.

My question is though has he underachieved with the great side he has built. From say 2018 onwards. He’s won 6 trophies in that time but 1 PL and 1 CL. The FA and League Cup are enjoyable to win at the time but are soon forgotten about at big clubs imo. The Super Cup is the European community shield and the World Club Cup is against a bunch of farmers let’s be fair.

It’s the Premier League and Champions League that define greatness.

I also am taking into account the injuries last season but it happens in football.

The unlucky to be around the same time as this City team narrative is one I get to an extent but not fully. City have only denied Liverpool 3 trophies under Klopp, 1 of those coming in a League Cup in Klopp’s first few months with the other 2 being pipped in the league. Liverpool have actually denied/knocked out City of 3 comps since 2018. In fact, in the league United have finished 2nd to City as many times as Liverpool in the last 5 seasons.

So Liverpool fans, what do you think? Has he underachieved a bit since 18/19 onwards

2 games short of a clean sweep and picking the bones out of why we failed. Crazy

I wouldn't phrase it as him underachieving cos that implies he could've done more, which I don't think he could've tbh, but Liverpool's trophy haul under him isn't reflective of how good the team he's built is. To put it into context, they've won just as much as we have since Klopp's been there and most Chelsea fans will say we've been pretty meh since 2015 by our standards.

They feel a bit Wenger's Arsenal to Fergie's United in competition with Man City & I think they're better than that, the gap's closer than it looks on paper.

How can you underachieve when youre being outspent by 3/4 clubs every season and constantly overachieve.

You lads are so bitter

This nonsense about scoring in cup finals.... liverpool made it to 3 cup finals and won 2. HOW can anyone put a negative spin on that? Why did all of the other teams not win those cups????

They need a narrative to help them cope.

Yep. Even if we had won the quad it would have been "yeah but you didn't do it unbeaten lol"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Since you failed to win the "quad" we will never know!

I actually think it's more Salah who underachieved than Klopp. Klopp couldn't have really done much more but when you consider that Salah up to about December got something ridiculous like 22 goals in 23 games, 2022 has been poor by comparison. He had a better start than his first season where he broke the goalscoring record. He should have had a season like Benzema but he tailed off big time.

But what about the starting points? Liverpool in 2015 weren't starting at the same point as Chelsea. That destroys your point IMO.

Chelsea coming off 1.5 billion from their owner, multiple league winners and regular cups including the CL and top 4 every season, top managers and one of the strongest squads in Europe.

Liverpool coming off the cowboys ownership, nearly wound up out of existence, players like Poulsen and Moreno, managers like Roy Hodgson and failed to make top 4 for 6 of the 7 years before Klopp joined.

Since 2015 Chelsea have outspent Liverpool as well.

The fact that he has matched Chelsea for trophies and Chelsea haven't finished above Liverpool for the last 5 years is an extremely facking insane overachievement on its own.

Yeah sack him 😆

Ten haag would won us the league and CL every year

Idiots, absolute idiots. Genuine fools.....

They've gone from Calling him a loser to an underachiever.......progress

Only 5 teams have won the CL in the last 10 years and only 2 have won the premier league in the last 5

Liverpool are in both groups

This Liverpool team are operating in an unusal era and I think most wouldl agree that in any previous era they would probably have two more titles to their name in the past few years. Which underscored your point Devil that they really could not have done more and that timing is everything.

Also gone from ‘yeah but he’s never won the domestic cups’ last season to ‘yeah but it’s only the FA & Rumbelow’s cup’ this season. Weirdly mostly from United & Spurs fans who’ve won fack all of late.

We don't need everything to be perfect to support our club. It's in testing times that you discover out who you really are....

They're right however, this is disaster for us....lnowing our manager and squad.....we'll crack it eventually
