Spaces in our squad.

Always worth reminding ourselves of the squad rules as we enter the transfer window.
You can name a maximum of 25 players, with a maximum of 17 non-homegrown. There are no rules on the number of homegrown players you have to have, beyond the limit of 25. You can also name an unlimited number of players born on or after January 1st 2001.

So where does that put us?
Our last squad named just 17 players.
12 of these were non-homegrown.

Emile Smith Rowe is no longer exempt, so will be added to the list, giving us 6 homegrown players.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba remain exempt.

The 17 included Jonathan Dinzeyi, who is unlikely to be at the club next season. The likes of Lacazette, Leno and maybe Pepe, could leave over the summer. That would put us at 14 - with 9 non-HG.

Of course, as well as Saliba, we may reintroduce loanees. Nelson and AMN would be the most likely I guess. Plus Matt Turner has already signed. That would take us back to 17 with 10 non-HG.

So, we are looking at 8 spaces in the squad, with 7 of them available to non-HG players - a lot of room for movement!!

Aaron Ramsdale*, Matt Turner, Karl Hein**, Arthur Okonkwo**
Takehiro Tomiyasu, Cedric Soares, Ben White*, Gabriel, William Saliba**, Rob Holding*, Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares.
Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Mo Elneny, Sambi Lokonga
Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe*, Bukayo Saka**, Gabriel Martinelli**, Reiss Nelson*, Nico Pepe
Eddie Nketiah*, Folarin Balogun**

and a lot of work to do!!!

I don't hold out any hope for us until the Kroenkes are gone.
=====
Why? Wasn't being the biggest spenders last summer enough for you??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They have no real ambition. If you haven't realised that by now then you are lying to yourself.

#KroenkeOUT nothing will change until that happens.

Yeah, allowing us to biggest spenders shows a complete lack of ambition

I don't give a toss about last Summer either. 20 years of decline now.

So you are blaming them for 17 years when they didn't own the club? Sounds fair.

They were majority owners for long enough, I'm not interested in their excuses anymore. Why are you so desperate to defend failure? Seems bizarre.

Just look at where they've taken us. The club is a complete shambles. Won't be long until we lose Saka, Martinelli, Smith-Rowe.

Our fans celebrating finishing 5th is embarrassing full stop and even more so when we've gone 5th, 8th, 8th and back to 5th, is that progress to you?

We're finished until the rotten head is cut off this snake.

Oh and increasing ticket prices? When we were already paying the highest in the World and watching mediocre football Not one World Class player in the team, no recognised striker, no real ambition as was shown in January when we had a fantastic opportunity to cement a Champions League place but refused to invest in a midfielder or striker and don't say Vlahovic, was never coming, just another PR piece for a player they knew was never interested to pretend to the fans they were trying.

The club is far from a shambles. It has a strong, long term, plan that is progressing well now after a mistake with the Raul era. It was always going to be tough to replace Wenger, but there are very clear signs we are moving in the right direction, in a controlled manner that will enable stability and progress at an ever increasing pace.

Didn't the Kroenke's put in place the shambolic structure we're trying to recover from? Seems weird to assume we're now on track to right all the wrongs. We've gone from 5th back to 5th the long and often painfully boring way, there's a lot left to prove before we can say we're truly moving in the right direction... At best we've stopped the rot but at worst we'll slip further back without the luxury of playing 1 game a week

I really hope you are right mate but unfortunately my own hope is lost, where to begin...

I know when I stated a lack of ambition you immediately thought of what we spent last Summer but spending wasn't even my primary thought. We've had many opportunities over the last 2 decades to get the final missing piece of the jigsaw to take us over the line to win the PL but we always failed to do so, this is what springs to mind in terms of underspending. It stems from a lack of ambition and we saw it again in January when the CL was there for the taking.

The Arsenal PR machine has a lot of our fans fooled but riddle me this: If we really were in for Vlahovic in January (which I really don't believe we were) then why now is our main striker target Gabriel Jesus? A completely different type of forward? So if that was the plan and the type of striker the team needs why are we not targeting one now with a similar profile?

More on ambition (or a lack of it): why was such a huge job, manager of THE Arsenal given to a novice with zero experience so he could spend 3+ years learning on the job? Seems like nothing more than the Kroenkes giving themselves an easy excuse for when things go wrong because most fans will point the finger at Arteta as they once again forget they were the ones who hired him. They also know that Arteta won't dare speak out against them publicly and they can play him like a puppet/their mouthpiece to convince the fans of whatever is required to take the heat off themselves.

- Paint peeling off the walls in the stadium, roof leaking onto fans in their seats, things looking generally shabby. Yes they finally announced some refurbishments recently but I believe anyone who takes pride in their business would have got on and dealt with this immediately, not leave it hanging.

- Virtually every article on the website littered with spelling errors and grammar mistakes. Recently an article had: "black four" instead of "back four"... Frankly it shows one example of many in terms of poor quality employees a lack of professionalism, it's embarrassing and that's our website a view into the club for outsiders and potential partners/investors, small details can matter a lot.

- Whether or not they owned the entirety of the club, Stan Kroenke became the majority shareholder in 2011. That means, for the past 11 years, they've been in the driving seat, they were making the decisions (or not making them, in which case leaving them in the hands of staff who were no longer, or never fit to do so).

How many times are fans going to keep buying the excuses and accepting mediocrity? It's no lie that for the past 10+ years we've been fed a PR masterclass that has reduced their expectations of what and where Arsenal should be.

Where do you draw the line and say enough is enough now? Because personally I crossed it long, long ago.
