I was just about to check them after reflecting on my post and thinking how offensive it might be if the lyrics are a deeply heartfelt expression of your national identity. Not that I am a fan of nationalism, but I can fully understand wanting to stand up for what others might have tried to mock or repress for such a long time.

Without going too deeply into it it's amazing any of us speak Welsh here at all such was the drive years ago to eradicate it. Check out the 'Welsh Not'.

That's why so many battle hard to preserve the langauge as it's a symbol of our identity.

I have nothing against England or the English of course but I don't want to be ran from there either.

My sister-in-law comes from a native Welsh-speaking family in Anglesey. I was over when they married back in the '80s, and seem to recall being told back then that it was quite a rarity to find native Welsh speakers, and that Anglesey was a bit of an exception in that regard. They're based in Liverpool and visit the family regularly, but unfortunately I don't think she's done much to preserve the language in the family, just as my brother didn't make sure the kids spoke Spanish, which is perhaps less of an issue globally even though it would've been nice to have a bit more awareness of their roots.

I'm glad to hear Welsh has made/is making a comeback in that regard. I do think it's important not to lose languages and everything they entail from a cultural, historical and human perspective.

On the other hand, I'm also currently studying Old English for uni and regretting every last trace of it didn't vanish 500 years ago!

That's my sister-in-law's favourite party trick. She's given us at least one recitation a year for more than three decades, and every single time she still bursts out laughing right after she finishes saying it. Her laughing is actually the funniest bit out the whole lot.

No. Tickets quite hard to come by and it's a 4 hour journey on a pretty poor road to get there.
