Thing is, much of the time gets added back on anyway. The stupid subs and fake injuries are as much about killing the momentum of the game than the time on the clock.

What you're proposing would have a huge impact on the way the game is played. And could actually lead to teams wasting loads of time and advert breaks in games, because nothing is happening anyway.. it's a terrible solution to something that's not really that much of a problem to most people.

If you want to make the game better in terms of attracting a larger audience, we need to stop the diving and play acting. That's what non football sport fans hate. Especially in North America.

Stoppage time only reflects supposedly substitutions and injuries. Even then we’ve all seen 3 minutes of stoppage time only for there to be a sub or two and then the ref blow the whistle at exactly 3 minutes.

It also discounts how long goal kicks throw ins etc take.

Clock should start when the balls in play and stop moment it isn’t.

I reckon we’d get a solid ten minutes more football every game

But having smaller goals discrimates against forwards who cannot shoot. Plus your idea would mean that Italy were defending enormous goals with Donnarumma in net and thus England would have won the Euros.
