.. that he wants out if we don’t have a good transfer window. If it is indeed him doing this I’m not sure how to feel. Works both ways..
1) In the pro Ronaldo camp he’s making sure the club is ambitious enough to try and compete. Not unlike Conte threatening to leave if Levy doesn’t spend money. These guys are winners and they want success now. So you can see where he’s coming from
2) In the anti Ronaldo camp the guy could well just be looking for an excuse to leave and this is it. He may not wanna be down in the trenches of a rebuilding job when he’s so close to the end of his career. And if he is doing the leaking via the press from his PR people perhaps it’s about time we start plugging the leaks
Which side do you fall on? Or can both be correct?

We may well be taking a long time with transfers but you also have to factor in the fact United stories start earlier and get loads of clicks. Also, perhaps this time, we are negotiating better than we have in the past. With this in mind for a few windows transfers will take longer as teams think it's the same old United. I won't worry until the season starts.

Why’d selling clubs wait for us? They also need to replace said players. Ajax have added 20m onto Antony for example now. Us waiting is not helping the selling clubs also as they have to replace those players

They don't have to but if the player has indicated he wants to join us then it's worth haggling IMO. If they then change their mind then it's perhaps best they don't come.

I think a problem is that there seems to be an assumption that by playing the long game, eventually that will force the price down. That will only be the case if Barca's need to sell is greater than our need of players in that position. Didn't Barca get significant new investment last week? And they just bid for Lewandowski, so I'm not sure they're as screwed financially as we'd like to think.
What could happen is we could chase him all window, miss out, then go on a desperate splurge in the dying embers of the window and end up with Telles, Diallo and Pellistri. That will really show the world that we're taking a more considered approach

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to stay at Manchester United this summer and will report back for pre-season training at the beginning of July, despite reports he is ready to quit the club.
Portuguese sports daily Record claim Ronaldo wants to leave after only one season back at Old Trafford as he fears that new boss Erik ten Hag does not have the right tools to compete for titles, and is frustrated with the club's transfer window so far.
However, the 37-year-old is expected to return for pre-season preparations once back from his summer holidays, which will be slightly extended due to his involvement with Portugal in their three opening Nations League fixtures in June.
The first players to report back at Carrington on Monday will be those who did not feature in international fixtures this month, while the rest will follow over the course of the following week.
Ten Hag confirmed during his introductory press conference at United that Ronaldo is part of his plans for the new season, and said he would contribute "goals" to his new-look side.

90% of transfer gossip in the media is absolute nonsense. They don't have a clue and make a living off it because football fans love the drama of it all.
Until likes of Ornstein pipe up I don't even get remotely excited by players we're linked with.

Rooney did something similar let’s not forget, turns out he was right.

He is not part of the future of the club, so if he wants to leave, I thank him for his service and bid him adieu,

Can we have an option 3) whereby we don't give the comments any thought due to the fairly low probability they are genuine?

If I have to choose, obviously I'm going with my bitter 'get that immobile egomaniac out of my club' instincts.
