Harry Gration, the former presenter of BBC Yorkshire's Look North news programme, has died suddenly, aged 71.
Mr Gration joined the BBC in 1978 and Look North in 1982. He presented his last show in 2020.
Mr Gration, who was born in Bradford, began filing match reports for the BBC while working as a history teacher in the mid-1970s.
While at the corporation, he reported on Match of the Day and Grandstand and commentated on several Olympic and Commonwealth Games, and also presented South Today.

Must say i'm quite surprised by this, 71 isn't that old and he always seemed so full of life. I enjoyed watching him present Look North when I used to catch it on a regular basis. He was a very proud Yorkshireman too and a great ambassador for the county.

Lovely man and lived just down the road from us in York. Often saw him in our local Tesco and a few weeks ago my wife saw him and told me he was down the next isle. To be honest he looked quite poorly. He was never a big bloke but I was shocked how thin he was. Still smiling and saying hello to everyone though.
I first met him back in 1980 at the first ever Children In Need. I worked for Grandways in Haxby and we auctioned off a steak meal for two to be cooked and eaten at the Radio York studio. It was a great night and even back then you could see he was a natural in the studio.
He will be massively missed in York. Such a nice man.

This news is such a shock. When he was on Look North he did some really hard challenges with Paul, the weather forecaster, to raise money for charity. I was amazed that he could do them at his age. Also he had a child only a couple of years ago - so sorry for his wife and family. RIP

Sad news indeed. He's been part of the furniture for a long time.
