The Sun are running a story that Barcelona requested Harry Maguire be included in the deal for FDJ and we rejected it...

Close, step forwards in negotiations, inching towards a deal, parties in intense discussions, verbal agreement, yada yada.

Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan told Sky Sports News:

"Frenkie de Jong is the big gun that's needed at Manchester United. He's the big boy who can change their playing style under Erik ten Hag. The deal still hasn't happened but I know they're working on it.

"The latest I've heard last night is that they are getting closer. It is still possible but it could be a late arrival. If he gets Frenkie, then they can start changing the style.

"He might also get Christian Eriksen over the line if De Jong signs. Eriksen is a player on a free, so with the huge figure of De Jong, if they were to sign Eriksen it would be two players together for a reasonable price.

"Eriksen is used to the Ajax style so it would give them a great balance in midfield.

"De Jong hasn't even been playing in his preferred position for Barcelona as that's where Sergio Busquets plays, which is one of the reasons he is thinking of joining Ten Hag at Man Utd."
