and he didnt turn out to be a nonce?

Sancho at £75m is clearly in the conversation although I do expect he’ll show some worth eventually.

As for Carroll, he didn’t do well but I can’t put him up there alongside some of the clangers in the list.

Financially, it cost Liverpool buttons for starters because it was a three way saga between Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea. As John Henry said …

“The fee for Torres was dependent on what Newcastle asked for Carroll. The negotiation for us was simply the difference in prices paid by Chelsea and to Newcastle. Those prices could have been £35m [from Chelsea for Torres] and £20m [to Newcastle for Carroll], 40 and 25 or 50 and 35. It was ultimately up to Newcastle how much this was all going to cost.”

Plus, he won more with Liverpool than the last few hundred Spurs players combined

Seriously though of all the United players listed in the OP, the majority are just there on price alone, if we’re being serious about flops, then you need to look at names like
Bebe
Kagawa
Mkhitaryan
Miller
Bellion
Depay
Tosic

Didn’t he turn out to score more goals in a season than the apparently good Firmino?

Getting a midfielder with his goal return is good. The nonce stuff would be more relevant had he not been there 5 seasons or whatever prior.

Who ever thought Firmino was good?

Personally I would always find room for El Hadji Diouf on a worst ever signings list.

Expensive for the time, atrocious attitude and absolute dog-poop on the pitch. Just terrible in every way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And he believed himself to be the second coming and better than EVERYONE else.

Also we can sell him now and make at least 30m back, and his wages are middling.
_________
oh right, you sell a flop that cost 72m for 30m and that makes it ok.

We sold carroll for 17.5m and 2.5m loan fee. yet you said overall carroll
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah you did well to claw back some of that money on Carroll.

But it sticks out in a way because there was just no justification for spending that kind of money on him in the first place. He wasn't talented in any way.

With most of these other ones, you can see why they were signed in the first place - even at a big cost. Carroll was just out of nowhere.

Last hours of the window after Torres left for £50m (or close to) I think, also one of those times when Liverpool bought a player who scored the winning goal against them the last time they met.

He had scored double figures for the Toon before his injury but still, very underwhelming.

Yep Carroll cost £35m of the £50m Torres money within about an hour

While Fred is definitely not worth the 52m he was bought for he’s not a terrible player and has probably had more good games for United than keita has actually played for Liverpool.

If Fred is in a top 10 then keita is a place or two ahead of him.

He’s arguably Klopps biggest ever flop
