If FDJ is who our manager wants 100% as his number 1 target for midfield, I'd be prepared to wait until the last week of the window, but I hope we've got a fallback option for at least one midfielder that we could wrap up in a few days if the time comes and a deal cannot be done with Barca.

On the "last week of the window" thing, is there any club who moving the end of the window to the end of August works against more than United? Knowing how we operate and the tedious sagas we are involved in every year, it pretty much guarantees we enter a season with a half cooked squad.

The issue you have is that if the Chelsea rumors are true, they would likely match our bid and also offer to pay FDJ's missing salary. Even with the new owners, Chelsea has shown they are willing to pay a little extra to get the people they want quickly Paying the additional €13million above the €3 million Barca have offered FDJ would be a minor inconvenience. Whereas the Glazers are just feckers.

I really wanted fdj long before we were linked to ETH
to be honest I have spent most of post fergie years talking about how we need a cm that can dictate tempo
however what I want more is players who actually want to be at utd. After reading the article about barcas finances I am more understanding of the current deadlock . I just hope we have a solid plan b

Even if we miss out on signing him, and he goes elsewhere he could be the next Sneijder or Robben.
Top Dutch talent discarded by one of Spains big two that we should've picked up, that go on to have great careers.

Of that we do pick up and turns out to be utter kak.

I’ve not got much time for the glazers, but of we were to essentially pay FDJ’s back pay for Barcelona, that would be laughable.

I agree. Barca can't afford to keep him anyway, so are going to have to find a way to pay his outstanding wages or accept whatever United, Chelsea or whoever else offers and deal with it. If that means them selling some other players, then so be it. Going out and signing players as if there is no problem isn't helping
