What did we learn?

Fitness and minutes on the pitch are the priority at this stage - hence some players are out of position as they manage who gets how much time.

Attitude, application and quality of the fringe players performances will also be looked at closely. Players can play themselves into or out of a squad in pre-season. Sounds like Gil had a good game, so he may be one where pre-season is a lot more than just getting fit. He'll want to impress.

They will be trying to implement whatever they have been training on, so that will be critiqued by the manager/coaches, as will individual performances

Players are searching for fitness, sharpness and touch but that will not excuse them for not correctly implementing whatever they've been asked to do by the coaches. Team shape and movement being key. Individual errors being less critical at this stage as players build their match sharpness, which includes decision making as well as physical

All good. I'm just glad we are back on the pitch. But even you have to admit we need to up the quality if we are truly going to challenge as Conte wants.

Real shame Lenglet didn't get visa in time. As a new signing he would need these minutes moreso than most.

Bissouma getting Covid is also annoying for preparations.

Forster would have seen Lloris and maybe fancies pushing him a bit closer than most think

I'm all good. We are made of tougher stuff than offensive posters, I've seen far more terrible things I'm my life.

I'm hoping we play 352 at some point. See if we can have a different formation for some teams.

Would like to see us totally dominate a team with Bentacur Skipp and Bissouma or Hojbjerg in the middle.

Add Wanyama. That team had assurances of a minimum 7 out of 10 performances engineered by the powerful and skilful midfield. I hope Bissouma brings this back
