Just over a week until the Prem

kicks off, and I am pretty excited about Spurs prospects if the truth be told. Conte with a good pre season, and the new players having bedded in should have Spurs at it right from the off.

A couple of things that need sharpening up though. Firstly defensively, some of our defenders have a habit of trying to bring the ball out from the defence, and then either get caught in in possession or needlessly give the ball away close to the penalty area. Good sides will punish Spurs for that. I would prefer the ball to be shifted away from the penalty area as far as possible, as quickly as possible.

The other thing that bugs me is offensively Spurs wing backs get into some prime positions, but then their final ball or delivery is not very good. Improve that area of the pitch, and Spurs should be scoring for fun.

Overall though the squad looks reasonably balanced now, and Spurs should be ready to go from the off.

Are you worried about United?

We’ve definitely looked more organised than in the last 4 years, even if it’s only preseason.

I think we had a good squad anyway, that performed horribly. He’s added a few.

I’m feeling good.

You boys look good also, so taking nothing for granted, but I reckon we could do you boys, over a 38 game season.

I've been banging that drum for ages. A lot of Spurs fans think that fourth is nailed on and that we'll probably finish higher. I'm not so sure. United under ETH look a completely different proposition. You've not signed many but he'll improve what you already have, not to mention the likely resurgence of players like VDB and Martial. Think it'll be really tight between us this year.

We're still no closer to the top two and personally I think Chelsea still have the edge over us. It will be the usual two, then Chelsea on their own in third and then the usual scrap between United, Spurs and Arsenal for 4th. I don't think that will be enough for Conte though.

Happy to talk up United but talk down your own team!

Where's the evidence that ETH is going to revitalise the likes of Martial, VDB, Maquire, McFred.

The likelihood that Kane will start the season on fire is much greater than anything you've predicted for United. The guy is rested, fit and motivated and had a very strong pre-season...for about the first time ever.

United's fragility and scars are still close to the surface, they havent freshened up the squad enough and it can all go very Pete Tong very quickly where so many of the same characters are involved.

I am not writing them off but to expect them to be up with Chelsea Spurs and Arsenal is a stretch right now

Fridgeboy does seem to big up every team bar Spurs. He was on the Arsenal board last week saying how good they looked. Strange he never gas a good word to say about Spurs.

For what it is worth I think United will do ok, but I don't see them finishing in front of Spurs.

one thread about Zinchenko. I've been chatting on the United board about Barcelona's conduct with the FDJ saga. I love football Sandy, I make no apologies about that. I shake like a shiiiiiiting dog when Spurs make hard work of a must win game so I know where my loyalties lie. It's always Spurs, it always has been but I'm allowed to be interested in football outside my own club's sphere.

And the reason I'm not singing from the rooftops is because someone has to strike some rational balance otherwise we'll all drown in a tsunami of blind optimism. There's some fans on here trying to decide whether we'll win the league or not on another thread. It's laughable. Someone said "I expect at least 2nd". I think they've lost their marbles personally. No one makes up 25-30 points like that. Particularly when those two teams have also strengthened.

I try to look at things objectively. As things stand, I don't think our window is as good as some say. You might cal that negative, I call it realistic. We've strengthened the squad with numbers but we've not made our first eleven much better. The only two you can bank on there are Bissouma, who was a steal, and Perisic. The jury is out on all of the others. They'll be useful squad players but no more vital than Moura or Bergwijn was.

If I'm wrong and we end up in a fight for the title with the other two teams I'll be the first on here to apologise. I'm not petty enough to refuse to admit when I'm wrong but my prediction is that come the end of the season, we'll be scrapping for 4th again, behind Chelsea, against United and Arsenal. We might win a cup but those predicting the promised land I think are in for a bit of a shock.

Liverpool have lost Mane, yet nobody seems to evaluate this as an impact. Or have they and I have just not read it. don’t think you can talk about Liverpool in the same league as City anymore. Curiously, Arsenal could be amazing with Jesus leading the line and their other business is good. Yet city didn’t play him too often. Chelsea, who knows but NO this year. United, not at all, lot’s of issues to sort. THFC? Would love to be the man from Delmonte but league NO, cup, possibly.

Nobody knows if the teams above us have strengthened or not, they have lost key players and their replacements may or may not be as good. Chelsea look in disarray and we more than matched Varpool and City last season. If Varpool`s new forwards struggle, they are an injury to Van Dyke and some straight refereeing away from slipping back into the pack. City are the ones to catch but we seem to like playing them.

Can’t believe Sandy hasn’t done an article on our former manager Terry Neill… who died today aged 80!

Terry Neill managed us for 2 seasons in the mid 70’s… strange appointment considering he used to play for Arsenal. He then resigned… to manage Arsenal !!

In other news Thomas Partey is definitely fecked. He’s been outed by the victim. Even if he gets away with it he’s gonna rightfully get dogs abuse at every ground.
