Wing backs

I’ve just read an article where Kuleveski has stated that he can play as a wing back if necessary.

That give us 5 possibilities in this position! Lol

Spence, Moura, Kulu, Royal & Doherty

I really don’t think Royal & Doherty are the ideal candidates for this position… Royal is not a wing back(not great going forward) & Doherty, despite a few decent games, is not good enough.

Conte is well known for developing wingers into this position, so I can expect to see Moura, or even Kulu in this role…maybe even Spence, if he develops rapidly!

Though I’ve heard the club are still interested in Traore.

Either way… I expect Doherty &/ or Royal to be sold.

Who would be your first choice & why?

Players who have played regularly as both centre forwards & centre halves:

Gary Doherty: Spurs (aka the Ginger Pele)

Paul Warhurst :Sheffield Wednesday

Chris Sutton : Norwich/Blackburn/ Celtic
----------------------------------------------------------------------
John Charles Leeds/ Juventus

Dion Dublin.

Starting line up tonight:

Lloris

Romero
Dier
Sanchez

Doherty
Bissouma
Holbjerg
Perisic

Son
Kane
Kuleveski

Why on earth is Sanchez starting at LCB… try Lenglet there, ffs… it’s a friendly!

Not overly joyed to see Doherty playing either…

We won’t win anything this season with those two in the team… surely Conte can see this!

I'm no fan of Matt Doherty, but I have to admit he was greatly improved under Conte and then got injured. We should look at him again.
Also where is Oliver Skipp?

Well, we managed to lose to Roma, With this lineup:
Lloris,
Doherty, Romero, Dier, Lenglet, Perisic,
Bentancur, Højbjerg
Kulusevski, Kane, Son

So that should tell Conte his trasfer season ain't over! .

Things learnt:
1. We need a tall commanding CB who can defend corners. Sick to death of seeing Dier, time and again looking around after the ball hits the net with that "whose fault was that then" look on his face. Usually it's his fault.
2. We need an attacking CMF, who can find a pass. Every time we play a 5,4,1 formation, we achieve virtually nothing in an attacking sense. Time and again we move the ball forward, then have to go back to the half way line to start again, because we don't have a ball player.
3. Seriously, what was that ref smoking ? even when spurs players got pulled to the ground, he gave a free kick to Roma !! either blind, or maybe hates Spurs, or English teams generally. His decision making was strange the whole game.

We concede too many goals from set pieces… hence why we are in for Milenkovic at 6ft 5

We struggle against the low block… so we need some creativity… so Bentancur must start with either Holbjerg or Bissouma.
Also the wing backs must be whipping in accurate crosses & getting past full backs.

Looks like Perisic & Doherty May start next week, but their fitness levels aren’t where they should be, according to Conte.

Both Sanchez in the 1st half & Lenglet in the 2nd half, did well yesterday… as did Romero, who was involved in an altercation with Pellegrini!!

I still think that we are 2-3 players away from seriously challenging Liverpool & City…

I try to avoid using things I've learned from Football Manager but one thing that carries through to the real world is this; you have to get all your players fit and ready during the pre season. Even players you may hardly use. What if the first choice player in that position breaks his leg? Getting them fit means giving them minutes in friendly matches, even if you lose the match because you've been getting your fringe players fit. It is often no reflection of who will play regularly once the season starts.

Keep the 5, work out during the season who the 2 strongest are, sell the weakest 2 next year and replace if they indeed need replacing.
