Eriksen

I feel like this signing has gone under the radar a bit, probably because he was on a free and the health doubts.

I could see him nailing down a starting XI place pretty quickly, probably as an #8 and also providing back up/competition for the #10 spot that Bruno occupies. I think the guy has the intelligence and skillset to move deeper than he has played in previous seasons and could be the perfect link between whoever plays at #6 and Bruno/our attackers. His passing range is superb and he will bring a goal threat from that deeper position.

Hopefully his health issues are in the past and he can play a full season. He could be pivotal.

This has gone that far under the radar that Nohlman is unaware we have signed Eriksen.

Imo Eriksen will be more suited to us in a midfield three as opposed to two.

Saw the brief highlights of his against Rayo and he really reminded me of Scholes. He played a deeper role at Inter and I imagine that’s where EtH sees him to give us greater control of the middle. Get in FdJ as well and we will have brought in 2 very technical midfielders which we’ve lacked for far too long.

I said the same on the match thread. It's almost uncanny! The way he positions himself, takes the ball and passes it on quickly is so much like Scholes.

I think the signing got exactly.the right amount of attention.

It’s the calmness. Ben Thornley spotted it. You may laugh, but this guy played with Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Neville etc before we knew them on the big stage. Respect Ben Thornley.

Yes, I can’t really see Eriksen in a two with Fred or McTominay. But when we play Bruno he’s often too advanced to be part of a midfield three. So I don’t know where Eriksen will fit in regularly unless:

a) It’s in a two with Fred or McTominay, and Bruno up ahead of them (like I say, I can’t quite see this); or
b) Bruno is asked to play deeper or perhaps even in a position new to him at United, e.g. wide or false 9; or
c) Eriksen starts instead of Bruno (and probably with McFred).

And if we get De Jong as well, that might complicate things further. So I’m glad we signed Eriksen and I don’t doubt his ability, but I’m intrigued to see what the manager has in mind for the midfield.

Yes, he’ll get plenty of games, I’m sure. It’s more the system I’m wondering about.
