It didn't take long...

This was inevitably going to happen but the media, particularly the more liberal outlets like the BBC are already implying that women should be getting the same pay and prize money as men.

The only way for this to happen is for women's football to be massively subsidised by the men's game that actually generates the money. Is this really what we want to see?

It's a classic case of fighting for equality against all logic; to me it seems crazy. They will say they do the same job, i.e. play professional football, as men. However the male players that play for Stevenage do the same job as those that play for Man Utd so if you apply the same arguement they should be on at least £200,000 a week to play in League 2.

They will only get paid the same when tv and sponsorship money is the same as men's game, so same size crowds, consistently 30k upwards depending on stadium size, then the most important bit, consistent viewing on sky for their games, same brand exposure etc etc.

This will never ever happen, unless women all of a sudden start watching footy same as men do, can't see it.

Don't women only play 3 sets in tennis?

Why pay them the same for less effort?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The crowds remain the same for men and women in tennis tournaments like Wimbledon and other opens. I’m happy for them to be paid the same as the people who pay the big money to watch it are paying for both.

The whole equal pay argument amuses me - does it really affect you (not picking on you particularly Greg) or anyone if they get the same?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was only an observation.
The women's game is a lot less intense than the men's game, the rallies are often short and games don't last very long, they also only have to play a maximum of 3 sets.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to be rewarded the same for less work, don't you think?

When it comes to football, the women may not be as good, but at least they play the same amount of minutes and to be fair to them they show more passion than the mens English team and man utd these days.

You have to wonder if the men's game would be as lucrative as it is now if women's football had not been banned all those decades ago when it was beginning to take off.

Would it be more balanced if the culture that has been invested in all those years had included women.

The ban and historical male dominant culture is the most fundamental factor for why there is such a huge gulf.

In that respect maybe the men's game does owe some reparations not to bring about equality but to help advance the women's game.

Womens Prem football is shockingly attended. Spurs women were the best attended club at a little over an average gate of 8,000. Most clubs don`t even reach half that average attendance. Some barely average a 1,000 a match.

It is obvious that without serious funding, probably from the men`s game, the women`s game would vanish without trace.

Nonsense to say the should be paid the same.

By your own logic of women’s football being so desperately bad to watch, it follows that Spurs fans have the worst taste in football.
