Controversial opinion coming up here. Fellow Chelsea fans, prepare to feel outrage.
Perhaps it's because we've yet to play him in his best position, but I am yet to understand the hype around Kai.
And I often think Porto has possibly made his Chelsea career look better than it actually has been.
Don't get me wrong, coming to a new league and lockdown happening has definitely not helped. But if I was to assess his actual Chelsea career on the whole and not just base it on him sealing his place in our history, I would say it's been good but not great, so far.
He's young and perhaps has a pretty high ceiling. But up until we re-signed the statue last Summer, he was our record signing. Porto and sentiment aside, is he living up to that billing?
I say again, perhaps it's because we've never played him in his best position.
But firstly does anyone truly know what that is? Secondly am I wrong to think we now have a right to want him to kick on? He's now going into his 3rd season.

I would defend his first 6 months, young, lockdown, had covid, new league etc. But yeah I completely agree with you. He seems to be heralded by some on here.
I am not sure what he really excels at, maybe movement?
But he very often flatters to deceive, or doesn't even do that.
I'm yet to see him have a good 90 minutes even though he's had very impactful games (liverpool away header, CL goal, newcastle goal).
Even in games he doesn't score he needs to start impacting the game more. The top players do this.
Also feel it's helped his cause by obviously the cl win, but also how bad werner, lukaku and others have been. He gets an easy ride.

I realise I've said he's had impactful games but then he needs to start impacting the game more.
Really meant, he should influence the games more in which he doesn't directly score.

I'm one of his biggest fans as I genuinely believed he was going to be the next best thing after mbappe. The guy basically has it all as a playmaker, but especially his smarts combined with his physicals made him special.
I haven't watched Chelsea play alot, mostly CL and a couple against the big 5. But one thing I noticed is that his teammates plays him the ball and then expect/wait for him to do a hollywood pass/shot, but that's not quite what he's about.
I would compare him more to Pirlo and Arshavin who loved having the ball and making alot of small right decisions with a sprinkle of genius mixed in.
Maybe teammates don't have that absolute confidence in him just like Arshavin was night and day at Arsenal vs Zenith or maybe he can't quite hack it at the PL speeds up front.
But he's still young and even if he fails at Chelsea I think he would come good at Real, Barca or Juve who in general often have more players suited to his style.

I thought he progressed last season. Lacks consistency and is very poor on his bad days, but he is very talented I think.

Tend to agree. He has huge potential but hasn't shown consistent ability just yet. Hopefully this season he can push on.
Conversely, I really rate Werner and he's slated by a number of people on here.

I question anyones football knowledge if they rate werner.
I could agree with them on everyother single thing in the world but if they still rate werner after what hes served up for two years then I worry about them.
