Weekend game and Union Pt2

We take on Killie at the weekend.

anything other than a gubbing is unacceptable after the debacle from Tuesday.

I expect we will, Killie will come with zero ambition to Ibrox and their heat map wont progress further than their 18yrd box.

Union Pt2

Looks like Gio is expecting Alfie back for it .... he is needed but I hope we aint rushing him back too early. We must start fast in that game get the crowd going and batter them like we do most teams in europe in recent years

Hopefully Alfie gets half an hour on saturday which would set him up for the bench on Tuesday night.

The story seemed to be that Kents wasnt serious and he will be back for the weekend.

We really need to find some rhythm in the attacking sense and I would maybe go with the combination that has looked most promising.

For Tuesday night I would look to play;

McLaughlin

Tavs Goldson Davies Yimaz

Lundstram Kamara

Matondo Lawrence Kent

Colak

Id keep Alfie for the second half if we need him tuesday.

Id play Davis ahead of Kamara at the weekend. Kamara was poor tuesday night but he has been decent in preseason so theres no need to desert him for the big games at this point.

The reality is Jack looks done. He has never been anywhere near to the same player since he has returned from injury. He doesnt look fit and doesnt look particularly mobile.

Tillman looks a player but he is very young and will be up and down. He looked very bright early doors tuesday but then disappeared.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
stil to early in the season to say if players are done... no idea what knocks he had how intense he was able to push in pre season etc... dont remember Jack playing too much in the pre season games?

Id use Tillman as our creative player either as the 10 or deeper in cm replacing kamara perhaps like you suggested. I dont think playing him wide is best for him.

Alife ... no idea not got a clue how intense he has been training etc. to be able to say when he should be back. we do need him back asap though
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason I say that about Jack is that he looked way off it when he came back last season but the hope was a full preseason would take him up a notch or two.

From what we have seen so far he looks well off it.

He will still be a useful squad member to have around but he looks like he is going to struggle to get back to anywhere near the level he used to be at.

I aint denying that he looks off it . but willing to see when the season is up and running if thats still the case.

for the last 2 seasons i have thought of jack like that ... he is too injury prone to consider a first pick in that midfield. 9/10 he injures himself going for tackles it seems.

Aye its when you take his age and his injury history into account and you look at him now hes had a good run at a preseason. Its hard to see him getting back to close to what he was.

I think half of his problems now is from playing when he has a slight niggle. He is the type that will play through knocks if the manager asks , doesnt come off in games when he perhaps should.

Thats my thinking anyway.

in answer to the lifting part.It is a foul yes, not sure the exact reason for it (cant remember) but it came up a while ago and I looked into it and it is a foul. Not sure if it the player lifting that fouls or the player that is lifted.

I think its a yellow card offence also?

There isn’t actually a rule or law about it, albeit a foul will be awarded in being against the tradition of sporting behaviour.

That can cover a multitude of sins.

I'm not expecting much from Morelos at the weekend or in the return leg against Union. It's not just a slight knock he's had, he's been out for months and will be well rusty. It'll be weeks until he's back in his rhythm.

Agree 100% that we need to play narrower, either with the two wide forwards coming to the edge of the box rather than the touchline or from the CMs coming further forward. Arfield is far from being our best CM but he's arguably our most effective because he does get to the box and disrupt the opposition's defensive line. Far too often we leave our central striker isolated in the area and they get slated for not producing miracles while constantly outnumbered.

the wide wingers can work with Morelos cos he can handle a back line on his own and create space to be exploited for the wide players but with Colak its the opposite they need to play much closer to him.

Morelos undoubtedly links up better, but there's been plenty of times he's come wide to link up with the wingers and fullbacks to work an opening, only for there to be no one in the box when the ball goes in other than possibly the forward on the opposite wing scampering in at the back post. Kent making a futile attempt to win a header against a 6'4 CB.

Agree with the consensus for both Saturday and Tuesday but would have 3 in mid-field with Arfield since we were over-run in mid-field on Tuesday. Also would start with Morelos on Tuesday, try to get 1 or 2 goals then bring him off even at 30 minutes, rather than wait until 60 minutes when we would be struggling and under pressure.

To be fair you might need to pull him off after 30 if he's still ruining pints and fast food like a lag that's just out after a 5 stretch.

If Morelos is fit, he starts on Tuesday. As to the rest of the tactical chat, I agree
