AR wants to rename Thorp Arch after Bielsa.

Thorp Arch was brainchild of Wilkinson.

Club plan to leave Thorp Arch anyway.

I know it might not seem sufficient but I thought there was a suite named after Howard Wilkinson Jonty.
Maybe the club could acknowledge HW's time with us better than that but I'm not sure what.

As you correctly stated HW's achievements surpass MB in terms of silverware and table position , but I just think to many Leeds supporters Bielsa's revolution and time at Leeds will be held in higher esteem because the club was floundering on and off the field after 16 years out of the top flight and the eye watering financial benefits that were on offer with promotion and that we were missing out on became like Willy Wonka's golden ticket when Bielsa led us to promotion.

Also the exciting swashbuckling style of play and player transformation make these to be pivotal factors in putting MB slightly ahead of HW, great though his achievements were, on a scale of importance to the future stability and legacy of Leeds United.

I don't doubt however, Radz is also trying to maximise some good PR and mend the many bridges he burnt in the abrupt manner in which he dismissed MB, but even so naming Thorpe Arch after Marcello Bielsa I do think it is fitting and respectful gesture despite the fact TA was Howard Wilkinson's brain child.

Don't have a problem with this. I still hope the club
honours him further with a 'Bielse sitting on bucket'
statue at ER.

I’ve loved what Bielsa has given us and it’s so much more than just football, but Wilko did an amazing job.

We were just as broken, former player after former player failing to rain glory years that were painfully fresh in memory the decline was so stark.

Wilko built an amazing team that swept all before it, if you’re looking for entertainment, look at 6-1 v weds, 4-2 v Villa and 4-5 v Liverpool. And all in less time than Bielsa.

Not trying to downplay Bielsa but what Wilko achieved was on another level with the rejuvenation of Strachan, the building of Batty’s and speeds careers, getting best season out of chapman, even making a cult hero out of Vinnie!

Yes Jonty I remember all those brilliant games and I'm not denying he was a club legend and chanting Sergeant Wilko's barmy army for virtually 90 minutes at away grounds was part of my favourite fan experiences.

However as broken as a club Leeds were in October 1988 I think it was when HW first took the reigns, away at Swindon 0-0 which I went to, I still think the level of dysfunction around Leeds when Bielsa arrived and him being able to reserect our fortunes I think is slightly higher in degree of difficulty than what Howard Wilkinson did for us.

Both men equally contributed to wonderful memories for us all and we could debate till the cows come home the merits of two great ambassadors for Leeds United and we would end up similar to the Monty Python Yorkshiremen sketch bemoaning their tough upbringing and who had it worse... check it out on youtube if you haven't seen it!

Agree about Wilko. Great memories and some great
football played under his time. Legend in my book.

Very good points about Wilko, I don’t forget because just as I was getting into footy around 1992 Leeds were all of sudden becoming a force again and had a really good family club feel, winning 1st div mean family stand built and season tickets for 10 year old me and my Dad.

His importance equip to Bielsa, money back then wasn’t so defining and winning premier league is only possible with oil money really.

Yes Howard’s restaurant is under the West Stand. Maybe he should get more recognition for what he achieved but I have no issues with Bielsa having TA named after him. I think he remodelled it quite a lot anyway.
