Mental Health (again) - it's good to talk

I've just shared this below on Facebook and Twitter. Thought I'd share it before the football season and United is to blame for me feeling low!

https://twitter.com/DeiBryn77/status/1555870995071832069?t=Sjz1IcnobSgSQB8zj0OREQ&s=19

I've had quite a few responses to the Facebook one with people saying they feel the same. It's good to talk and I feel all the better for it. When people see me they probably think I'm a happy person (generally am) but depression and anxiety can hit us all.

By all means feel free to take the pee this season and keep the 'bantz' going but, no matter who you support, if you need someone to vent to/ share something with (as sometimes easier to do it with someone you don't really know) I'd be open to help if I can.

Good post, Diafol.

I think i mentioned on your last post that i've been through various mental health issues for 27 years now... It's good that we can talk about it without much stigma, these days.

I 100% know what you mean about the feeling of dread. Sometimes it can be based on a solid idea eg "my family are gonna have a car crash" and other times it's just a general sense that something very bad is going to happen (which might well be quite natural, when you look at the state of the world).

Thankfully, of all the issues i've had (hppd, anxiety, dpdr and depression) I managed to beat the depression after 3 years or so. All the meds were making me worse, so I focked off my doctors and just worked on my own mindset. I would force myself into situations that I would normally hide away from... Going out, or simply forcing myself to say a few words to a stranger at a bus stop.

Slowly but surely, I got a sense of self back and the depression eased (it still comes back a bit, on occasion).

(Of course, what worked for me may not for others, and vice versa... focking off your doctor is not advice, just my story).

Anyway, keep on fighting, mate... and reach out if you ever need any help.

Cheers Ji. It's great people can open up now and not be told to 'pull yourself together'. I do think, with my amateur psychology hat on, that some of it is linked to my partner going through early menopause. She's really struggling so the Dog is my 'release valve' if I need to step away for an hour or so to give her space. I also feel I'm letting her down as I can't help but I suppose I can't really. Only be there.

Great you've got over yours and you are right 'forcing' yourself to do things is needed at times. I've started playing football again just a kickabout and I do feel mentally better for it. Even if physically I'm aches and pains for a couple of days. Sadly I still get a buzz from scoring in 9 a sides! It's great!

Sumai Diafol.
I suppose it’s different for everyone, but I tend not to mix with anyone from work in my social time (apart from one very good friend, but we never talk about work).
I’m not on social media either, so I think that helps.
You know you can reach out to me if you fancy a pint, sharing with a stranger etc. 👍🏻

Diafol, I get on with the majority of this site but you specifically are probably the nicest and most genuine person on here (not to discredit others of a similar ilk).

I know you’re not looking for a hand job here but seriously dude, the world needs more people like you so whatever it is you’re feeling please know they for what it’s worth, this site would be a lot worse without you and your input 🙌
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm too emotionally repressed to say so, but second what Robb said.

Good that you raise these issues in your OP too. I'm no stranger to downers and anxiety, and I know the bad habit of male coded behaviour of holding it in has exacerbated it.

Haha. I'm really a dark and conniving person you know!

Yes, sometimes male bravado can make you feel weak if you share but I've been encouraged by how many people have responded to me when I've shared this kind of thing. I always try to speak up for people at work who aren't always confident in expressing themselves. Probably because I'm at an age where I'm not that ambitious any more so I've less to lose.

Cheers Process. All is well. Just wanted to highlight how sharing can help really. It was a couple of months ago I was at my lowest but talking helps. 👍
