Great day at WHL yesterday

I had Spurs down for 3-0, so 4-1 was much the same a three goal margin. Started the season as they finished the last, scoring for fun, and without breaking sweat for the majority of the 90 minutes.

Only one game, but it is a pointer to the way forward that despite both Kane and Son not having particularly great games, and none of the six pre season signings starting, Spurs were able to brush Southampton aside with the minimum of fuss.

Special shout out to Kulu. Spurs have one special player here. Scores, assists, has wonderful control of the ball, and is still only 22. Currenly I think he is the best player in the country. How long before the pundits and media try to sell him? It is these special players that every good team needs if they are to win trophies, and boy oh boy is he special.

Team overall played well yesterday, despite going behind, and I thought Sessignon had his best game for Spurs, as did Emerson. Bentancur purred in midfield, and generally I really could not fault any of the players for effort.

There will of course be tougher tests to come, and Spurs have some really tough away matches up until mid October, but I think Spurs now have the squad to compete at the very highest level.

On a slightly lighter side, it only took Spurs 90 minutes to reel Arsenal in. They really are the gift that keeps on giving. And CFC could only dream of the near 62,000 fans at WHL yesterday ever turning up at Stamford Bridge. Cannot think there will be many empty seats at WHL this season.

Great to be a Spurs fan right now.

Sandy I think I’m remembering correctly that you said if none of our new signings were starting you’d be very concerned, or something along those lines.

This isn’t a dig at all, but were you a bit concerned at the starting lineup? Guessing if you were it was soon forgotten!

I was more thinking along the lines that six players were signed, and none of them started. As it turned out, it didn't matter. I will put my faith in Conte to pick the team, he is on the ground, and probably knows best..

Fair play he stuck with the team that secured CL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah that makes sense. I’m sure 2-3 of them will force their way into the starting 11 before long but I think it was fair to stick with the existing players.

I think they will all get plenty of game time, because I expect Spurs to go deep in all competitions.

LOL every team Spurs beat are poor according to you. They dismantled Arsenal in much the same way last season, without breaking sweat. Expect much the same this season.

The OG Southampton conceeded was ridiculous

Brilliant win and a great start but the truer test will come against the bigger teams or the ones that dig in. Southampton play on the front foot and are either outstanding or woefully exposed. They notoriously leave enormous gaps at the back. Our front three is exceptional and it’s nice that Kulusevski is yet another threat opponents have to deal with which should create more space for Kane and Son but until we tear apart a team that likes to sit, I’m not gonna get carried away.

Positive start though but as a Spurs fan, I’m still expecting defeat to Chelsea next week.

Spurs do struggle to beat teams that sit. But having said that name me a team that just sit, and Spurs have not beaten over the past two or three seasons.

I think it is just a lazy assumption that Spurs cannot beat any team that just sits.

Well, not teams that are known for sitting per say, just teams that know that if you dig in and don’t leave yourself exposed on the counter, Conte’s system is more than beatable. Brighton, who aren’t known for doing that, adopted those tactics last year and it worked like a dream. Shut off the channels and man mark Kane when he tries to drop deep, and you’ll get joy. Then, when you time it right you can do to us what we often do to opponents. We get desperate and leave gaps in our own defence. It’s all about remaining patient. It’s something we’ve struggled with a lot down the years and I think you need that little bit of magic to get past it. Conte had that in Hazard with Chelsea but I don’t think he has that in the current squad. That’s my main concern.

Yes Brighton beat Spurs at WHL last season, but a few weeks prior Spurs won at Brighton comfortably. So I don't quite get your point. I would expect Spurs to win comfortably at home to Brighton this season.

Don't forget Romero.
He is outstanding at RB (or RCB) behind Kulushevskii.
Overall it was a pretty open game and it could have gone either way until we scored.
And yes the OG was the worst I've seen.
Next game up will be a real test and I expect to see Perisic play.

I`d still like to see a lockpicker brought in and a commanding CB, our achilles heel is the teams that sit back, pack their defence and then pick us off with a set piece
