Well, if that statement is genuine, complete and not out of context, that synopsis by McClaren (fallacious as it is) is just about the most succinct indication of everything wrong at the club, and has been wrong for near on ten seasons.
Mctominay is far away from being United quality, as were too many others in the ten year period, and some still at the club - including Rashford, dalot and coco -who, along with mctominay were allselected to start today.
4 players that should be nowhere a success-seeking Premier league club -and yet are in the starting line-up - is always going to produce a performance that makes everyone look bad.
It's a team game for goodness sake, and if all xi players are not at the same, or similar, levels of professional ability then it will inevitably result in the poor team performances and result we saw today.

At the end of the day we all want to see United back again and we have differing opinions on how that can happen.
I think Fred can be decent with a good partner but McTominay has had more than enough opportunities now.
He has the odd good game but they are few and far between.
Even if we don’t get another midfielder in which would be criminal, he shouldn’t be playing. Give Garner a go.

He is doing no worse at his job than Rashford, Fernandes, Maguire, Dalot have been doing IMO.
Rashford has passed up a stupid amount of chances, Maguire cost a stupid amount of goals, Dalot makes too many mistakes in dangerous positions, fernandes guilty of missing clear chances, offering nothing from set pieces and creating little.
He is an easy target but other performing just as bad dont get the same hate.
