It seems apparent to me that many fans on here do not want Ronaldo at the club anymore (separate to him apparently wanting away). The common complaint being that he ruins the way we play, or want to play (lack of pressing, not being a team player etc).
I hold the minority view that I would rather Ronaldo be in the team than not (given that we don't have a Haaland etc).
Now even though Ronaldo is not and never was a long-term plan, I personally thought of that problem being much, much lower down the pecking order of problems that we have at United. The way some people speak on here about him, you would think that everything was great but he was holding us back, perhaps similar to RvN when we had a great team overall but RvN couldn't adhere to the type of football we were capable of and then went on to play from 2006-2009.
Can we honestly say that this is the case now? Did yesterday's game not clearly demonstrate that as far as our problems go, Cristiano Ronaldo is far down the list?
Rashford - dreadful for ages
Bruno - same
Midfield - do I need to say anything?
Defence - as above
So many of you would happily not have Ronaldo in the team but instead would have Martial, Rashford keeps getting played despite his form being absolutely diabolical. Ronaldo created a sitter for Rashy and made another good run also. He wasn't amazing by any means but I haven't seen many complaints about his performance which says quite a lot tbh.
Would any of you change your opinion on how much of a problem Ronaldo is for us, should he stay this season for example?

Nah, it’s because Ronaldo is too static and doesn’t press enough.

Whether he pressed enough under and old manager's tactics is kind of irrelevant. Is he going to be able to do what ETH needs him to? I'm not convinced, but hope I am wrong.

I don’t think he suits ETH’s approach at all, no. But we don’t have suitable, better options imo. Some think Martial would produce better play and therefore better results but I really can’t see it.

There is no key. But given Ten Hag is known to be big on high pressing and rotations in the attack, Ronaldo’s obviously the biggest problem with that.

It was in 2005 with RvN but we had such a better team and character back then. If we replaced Ronnie with Kane for example, it wouldn’t have the effect that getting rid of Ruud did

The striker triggers the press. If he can't do it then I don't see how ETH can play his system. Its not a slight on Ronaldo. He's never been the player to do that and it's unreasonable to expect him to do it now

Of course. But it makes it easier for the midfield and defence if we can defend from the front better and stop teams walking through us.
We actually did this much better yesterday. None of their goals were from walking through us from the keeper.
