I’m wondering why the media (especially Carragher) haven’t mentioned this yet?
Gary Neville
Team: Valencia
Played 28
Wins 10
Draws 7
Losses 11
Win % - 35%
Stevie G
Team: Aston Villa
Played 29
Wins 10
Draws 5
Losses 14
Win % - 34.5%
Seems in their managerial careers in what we consider to be the “big" European leagues they’re pretty identical with Gary slightly ahead.
Why isn’t Stevie being roundly scrutinized like Gary was?
G Nev v Stevie Me

We've gone from debating which world class midfielder in Lampard and Gerrard is better to which of the two worst manager's in the league will get sacked first.
You do wonder if chairmen will ever learn that being a great player rarely translates into being a top manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
does it though?? If you look at the number of high profile jobs ou there, a high percentage of them are managed by top ex players.
Pep, Conte, Lampard, Gerrard, Viera, Arteta, Parker etc...
6 of the last 9 champions leagues all won by top ex players.

If you look across the top managers/head coaches in the game though, a decent proportion have been top players: Pep, Ancelotti, Conte, Simeone, Zidane, Enrique, Mancini, dare I say Southgatejust off the top of my head.
There are arguably even more examples if you go back to the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Being a top player obviously isn’t a prerequisite because there are a raft of examples of top managers who had lower league journeyman careers, and some who never played professionally; but surely the top level experience - dealing with the media, the pressure, being coached by top coaches, etc. - can be incredibly valuable.

Losing Michael Beale will impact Gerrard massively. He was the brains behind the operation.

No he wasnt he was one piece of a jigsaw, they all complimented each other well

Gerrard was the disciplinarian, Beale the coach and tactician and Gary Mac the joker.
He's lost the man that built his system.

whats more frequent.
Managers who weren't pros being great managers
Manager who were pros being great managers
I'd wager there's a higher % of players who become good managers than the millions of non players who become managers...just to play devils advocate

yes and the tactic is one part of it, Ian Cathro by all means is a genuis with setting up tactical training, cant manage for $hit it seams though. Tactics is just one part of a large puzzle.
Its a managers job to get all the right people round him.
By all accounts Walter Smith and Fergie barely touched the tactical training , they brought in guys for that.

Stevie Me has credit in the bank through what he achieved at Rangers.
Gary Neville took a job he was not qualified for and burned badly.
I have no respect for Neville on the management issue because he just gave up and did not give it another go. It is why any comment he makes on managers is moot to me.

I take your point but correct me if I'm wrong here but weren't Valencia sitting higher in la Liga at the time than villa were here?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you and your fellow pool fans continuously talk about the strength of the PL and how weak it was in past years.
So surely a mid table side is far stronger than a team in a 2 team league. We all know how weak those 2 team leagues are.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If the league is weaker then he should have won more games then shouldn't he, genius!!
