Week 1

Watford 1 - 1 Man City

A tough opener for the home side, but they look a solid outfit, Man City made huge strides and made some very good changes, they had a good share of possession but couldnt convert the possession into goals, the midfield battle was an interesting one, a hugely experienced City v the up and coming Portuguese trio and tbh the Watford lads did extremely well and gave as good as they got, however, the away side did take the lead and Benzema was the man to score, Nkunku doing well down the left, he drilled it in and Benz just nipped in ahead of Ibanez to poke it home on 63, this pushed LC into some attacking subs bringing on th emuch sought after Evanilson, whose entry was almost immediete, Otavio sending him through on goal he dinked it over the keeper for the equaliser on 80, both went for the killer goal, but the game ended with a fair point for both

Watford - Evanilson(Otavio), 80
Man City - Benzema(Nkunku)63

Wolves 0 v 0 Liverpool

Neither showed up much to the dissapointment of the capacity crowd

Spurs 1 v 0 Leicester

Cant fault either of these sides, strong in every position and cannot seperate them, teams will do well to catch up on them this season again, a very cagey affair, in the centre neither team had enough possession to create much, just for the sheer quality that was on the pitch, sounds crazy to say but both have players to contain each other and close each other down and minimise their threat, so a lot of passing when both had the ball but coming to nothing, threats did come from out wide and chances began to happen but again two top defenses and goalkeepers kept them at bay, the game went on, not a boring 0-0 but things had to change, both made attacking subs as fresh legs were on, as it looking like the ref was about to blow his whistle Spurs pushed one more attack, Kane and Jesus linking well and right on full time it was Jesus who bundled home the winner from a couple of yards, not a wonder goal but they all count

Spurs - Jesus(Kane), 90+2

Newcastle 2 - 2 Arsenal

A fantastic attacking game here from two teams, both will be hoping they can pressurise the top two a bit more this season, Arsenal laid the gauntlet down with attack after attack ad they deservedly went ahead when Hakimi broke down the right hand side and played a dleightful ball into the middle, Dybala was on hand to knock it in, Arsenal were relentless and pushed for a second, but Newcastle kept them out for a while anyway, they started to gain a little more possession but when Modric lost the ball, Partey picked up and played in Dybala who got his second just before half time, A much needed break for the home side and they came out fighting, they equalised almost straight away from kick off, Salah and Mane creating space for Diaz to come in from the left and he smashed it home to half the deficit. Kante coming on for the tiring Modric made a huge difference to the game his much needed energy in the centre saw Newcastle have more possession as he was everywhere, he tore it off Paqueta who was dithering on the ball, he made a short pass to Son, he made it to the bye line then cut back inside, drove into the box and managed somehow to stick it in the back of the net, quite a game of two halves and I doubt neither Jet or Ludy will be happy with the way this played out, but a point each in a hard fixture am sure they will take that

Newcastle - Diaz(Mane) Son
Arsenal - Dybala x 2 (Hakimi, Partey)

Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd
Haaland (Gnabry), Jude (Mbappe) ; Adeyemi (Kulu)

Both teams lacked creativity in the middle but showed quality out wide in attack. The away team invited pressure playing deep but we’re able to hit quick on the break with pace and power and good dribblers throughout their team. Chelsea’s quality in attack, especially out wide was too much for United though.

Brentford 1 - 0 Aston Villa
Borja (Odegaard)

A box to box game with little between the teams, despite some top quality in the Villa side the home side tactics and players compliment each other. It was almost a surprise there weren’t more goals. With the fans behind him, Brentford sprung into life in the second half and got the win.

Motm: Odegaard
