Can't really blame Leeds though for two players backing out of a transfer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is a very simplistic way of looking at it. Maybe they shouldn’t have waited until the very last day of a very long transfer window to press the panic button and try and quickly get players in. We had all summer to get the squad ready.
I never understand why 5 games into the season any team isn’t ready, should be all done by 1st August.

This is a very simplistic way of looking at it, actually.

Based on what the jurnos were reporting, these are the scenarios that played out -
We went from offering £33m for CDK to being told there's no more money for new signings, to then offering £38m for Gapko.
We went from refusing Spurs a loan deal for James, stating we would only accept a straight sale, suggesting we needed to sell to buy, only to then loan him out to Fulham.
The owners make Arthur Daley look respectable.

Almost makes you realise that the journo's dont have the whole picture doesn't it?
And quite right too.

I keep hear people saying that James is an asset for the team. In what way? He can't shoot. He can't cross. He can't pass. He can only dribble if it means running in a straight line. His press is awful. He can't take a set-piece.
He's fast. That's literally the only marketable skill that he has.

Exactly the way I see him. Can't see any improvement in him from his Swansea days to be honest.
Blasting all that money on him a year ago was more farcical than the end of the latest window really.

Lubo nailed the James assessment.

As I've said before I wasn't DJ's biggest fan but refer back to Shaun's and Wakeys comments at the beginning of this thread - the real issue is a numbers game, shipping out DJ leaves us short.
We haven't addresed LB and CF and an 18 year old with no PL experience is a high risk gamble - just feel we're playing high stakes Russian roulette sometimes and we can't at this level.

Nah, we stayed up by the skin of our teeth, we didn’t suddenly become short of players, had months to sort targets without running around in dying minutes and losing a first teamer in process, doesn’t matter what you think of James, was an experienced player, played out of position most of last season and with 5 subs now we are low in depth of senior players

I've just looked up our assists rankings for last seasons - Dan James provide the most assists for us. He scored a few as well. So many in our team are not up to scratch but I keep hearing this thing about giving them time to bed in. Well Dan James was played out of position more often than not and rarely dropped us in the sh!t, as is a regular occurrence with the likes of Llorente, Firpo and even Ayling. I think he could easily have been our top provider of assists this season as well as last, given the chance. Imo we've screwed him good and proper - I hope Fulham use him in his natural position and that he flourishes.

Getting rid of James was a mistake. But I don't think our set up would ever get the best of him. If we get the same amount of injuries as last year we'll get the same results. I was feeling better about our depth until deadline line. We could have a decent front line in a couple of years if things work out for our young strikers. Unfortunately we need it now.

it is a loan, he'll be back...... unless there is an option to buy?
