Interview with Martial

Martial has spoken to France Football today and there’s some good quotes about his struggles with Mourinho, Ole playing him injured and his admiration for Van Gaal. I’ll highlight a few below:

Anthony Martial: "I had a great relationship with Louis van Gaal the first season. I love to learn and when a gentleman like him takes the time to make me watch videos of my matches to explain things to me, it is the best."

Anthony Martial on problems with José Mourinho: "It started with the story of the shirt number. During the holidays, he sends me a message to ask me if I want to take 11, explaining to me that it's great, because it was worn by the legend Ryan Giggs."

Anthony Martial: "He [Mourinho] was talking about me in the press. He likes these games, but he also knows who he is doing it with. He knows that I am 20 years old then and that if I say something, it is I who will be the young person who lacks respect."

Anthony Martial: "The last two seasons, I have regularly played injured. People don't know that, I couldn't accelerate during the four months following the Covid season. Solskjær tells me that he needs me, so I play."

Anthony Martial: "Given my game, if I can't accelerate, it becomes very complicated. And I get criticised — the coach never bothered to tell the media. Obviously, I end up getting injured for good and when I come back, finished, I don't play anymore."

Ole playing players who are injured to keep himself in a job? Well I never.

It's common knowledge. He broke Rashfords back and I remember Lindelof and McT playing injured too. Combine that with not resting Bruno and ruining him.

Also he wasted £130m on Maguire and AWB. Will never forget that.

Ole was worse for this club than Jose. Nearly all the problems we have stem from him.

Interesting this, and explains a lot. That was around the time where physically he had dropped off a cliff for no apparent reason.

Ridiculous management really.

Wasn’t Rashford played for a whole season with that back injury too?

Which is why he looked a shadow of himself

Managers ruining players. Shows that they're selfish caants

Ole had a horrible habit of playing the same players every week no matter what even in dead rubbers, twonk

I guess there's always two sides to every story and Martial has his. But honestly, I just want to see what a fully fit Martial can do - flatter to deceive or fulfil the initial potential we saw in him............

Tbf Rashford went off and played in the Euros even when he knew he needed a back op, so I don't think there was much of an issue there.

Let’s hope his word is true and he can kick on. On form, Martial gets Old Trafford rocking, he’s great to watch.

It rings true tbh. As I said, the drop off in him physically from the beginning of the 20/21 season onwards was really strange. He'd lost his agility, a good few yards in pace and just looked a really cumbersome player in general (which he is definitely not usually). God knows why we were bothering to play him through injury because he was totally useless around that time anyway.

The signs in pre-season and the second half of the Liverpool game were really encouraging, but I just worry these injuries are now a bit of a knock-on effect from the last 2 years.

Could be. There is also the potential, given what he's said, for him to now be unwilling to play unless he feels 100% right. Daniel Sturridge syndrome.

Not that I'd criticise him for that, if what he says about being forced to play injured is true. That would likely have a lasting psychological impact. But it means he is likely to continue to miss a lot more games to come through injury, if my theory is correct.

Pretty shocking. I expected the Jose stuff as they never got on but he’s buried Ole there. Thought they got on. Looks like Van Gaal was his one true love.
